Despite President Obama's long history of criticizing the Bush administration for "sweetheart deals" with favored contractors, the Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.

The contract, awarded on Jan. 4 to Checchi & Company Consulting, Inc., a Washington-based firm owned by economist and Democratic donor Vincent V. Checchi, will pay the firm $24,673,427 to provide "rule of law stabilization services" in war-torn Afghanistan.

A synopsis of the contract published on the USAID Web site says Checchi & Company will "train the next generation of legal professionals" throughout the Afghan provinces and thereby "develop the capacity of Afghanistan's justice system to be accessible, reliable, and fair."

The legality of the arrangement as a "sole source," or no-bid, contract was made possible by virtue of a waiver signed by the USAID administrator. "They cancelled the open bid on this when they came to power earlier this year," a source familiar with the federal contracting process told Fox News.

"That's kind of weird," said another source, who has worked on "rule of law" issues in both Afghanistan and Iraq, about the no-bid contract to Checchi & Company. "There's lots of companies and non-governmental organizations that do this sort of work."

Another Obama broken promise, Quote: "I will finally end the abuse of no-bid contracts once and for all," the senator told a Grand Rapids audience on Oct. 2. "The days of sweetheart deals for Halliburton will be over when I'm in the White House."

It's no surprise, sweetheart deals and bribes are common place with Obama and clan.

On sites like Huff Post, DailyKos and in another forum I participate, I remember well the left's teeth gnashing over Halliburton being awarded no-bid contracts to repair Iraq infrastructure.

    Oddly quiet in this thread.

I call that hypocritical, bashing Bush over Halliburton and approving of Obama's no bid contracts to his buddies. To make matters worse Obama criticized Bush over Halliburton yet does exactly the same thing. But Obama has a history of lies during his campaign, say anything to get elected.

When people were against no bid contracts a year ago why wouldn't they be now? I am solidly against them no matter who does it. As I'm sure are the people who were furious when Bush's handlers did it. I don't know why you would think anyone would despise it it when one party did it and approve of it when another party does it.

I read the original post. I beleived it. I hated it last year I hate it this year.

Who on Earth are you saying approves of this? Who are these people you image and then blame for everything.

Don't you think it was equally wrong when Bush did it, as it is now Obama does it? Of all the posters on this thread there have been exactly two who were hypocritical about it so far. The two who hate Obama for it but give Bush a free pass on it. Noone here has denied Obama did it. No one here has supported him doing it. No one. Who are you talking about? Who?

Was it wrong when both parties did it and is it true that both parties did it? Answer me yes to that before imagining hypothetical hypocrites elsewhere. I say yes. It was wrong when Bush did it and it's wrong when Obama does it. I think that's the only position that makes sense. How about you guys?

I'm against no bid contracts period.

That being said, do you have a link to this story from a reliable source? (I do not consider Fox News reliable or even News.....They sell RW propoganda)

Not saying the story is fake but ......I'd like to read it from another source like Wall St Journal even......A real news organization, not a RW rag. (Trust but verify)

For starters Obama approves of it. Yet he denounced it when Bush did it, that's the hypocrite in Obama and another lie. Think about it, Obama criticizes Bush and then does it himself and lies to the American people he would never do it. I can't tell you what I think of Obama I would be kicked off this forum and you guys would miss me. Would not want that to happen. I will say Obama - Worst President Ever

Too lazy to try to chase down Fox News Fairy Tales so I'll just assume it was more propaganda lies.

In regards to Reagan, I liked him personally but think he did more damage (with his "Reaganomics") than his beneficial role in ending the cold war covered. He also cut & ran from Beirut (after the Marine barracks bombing) & can arguably be more of the cause of terrorists thinking the US is weak than Jimmy Carter)
