NYC Teachers suing to wear campaign buttons

Government officials on the job wanting to wear political campaign pins supporting Obama/Biden. They say it's a first amendment issue.

Now my employer does not allow such campaigning or displays while we are on the job on their property or representing them in anyway.

    Why should government teachers?

I agree. Do you feel the same about a sheriff appearing in uniform to make a speech at a Sarah Palin rally?

They should not be allowed and will not. But by making a stink out of it shows the sheep where they stand. This is a ploy, they know the judges hands are tied. You would have been better off by keeping this one under your hat, hell man you fell for it!

Why? My OP spelled out the issue quite clearly and with brevity.

    So discuss the issue.

A SHERIFF is a politician. Unless you're referring to a deputy, and I can't imagine a low-level flunky making speeches in a national election campaign, the sheriff is not covered by the same rules as his underlings, unless you want to argue that because Obama and McCain are current seated Senators they should not be campaigning.

Good luck on that one, bud.

What's funny about the issue is the argument the flack used: "Teachers have never abused this before, thus we want permission to abuse it now".

Politics do not belong in the class room.

How hard is it for the religiously devoted socialists to understand? It's no different preaching socialism in the classroom than it is to be preaching Seventh Day Adventism. Both are wrong, both are religions, and both violate the Constitution.

Have to agree. Employees wearing political items indicate support of that cause on the part of the employer. Labour law in both US and Can is clear on it. Employees, even unionized employees, cannot make political statements at work while they are representing the employer. Logos and slogans included. Same for a McDonalds casheer as for a teacher.

At 3:30 outside the fence they can wear what they want.

I like teachers and I like unions. But God... put them together and it's always a shit show.

I can't help but notice that the article doesn't suggest that teachers are demanding the right to wear such buttons in class. If teachers wish to wear campaign buttons outside the classroom, I see no objection.
