    current polls

I was a little bothered earlier today. I thought perhaps the Democrats have been able to hoodwink the American people into thinking the sub prime mortgage issue was at the hand of Republicans. But I looked at the best reflection of the situation can be had at RealClearPolitics. They average the major poll results. Today the average of polls has Obama up by 5.6 points. Gore and Kerry both were up by more than that in their bids for President. Dems have to overcome their disadvantage by the hand of the electoral college. Dems need several more points in a general polling to actually win in the election. Americans are smarter than one might think. RealClearPolitics - Election 2008 - General Election: McCain vs. Obama

No they are actually quite indicative of the present mindset of the people.

    they sure are.

A 1980 Gallup Poll taken one week before the election showed Carter up by ten percent over Reagan.

Polls showed Bush BARELY leading Dukakis.

    They showed Gore winning.

    They showed Kerry winning.

    Polls are shit.

Only shit puts faith in them.

You Republicans are LAME. You're running a LAME campaign. It's really no surprise though. You guys are BANKRUPT, in every way that counts.

ALL you've got, is pointing fingers at the opposition, and trying to blame THEM for all the messes YOU created.

Take a time out. Relax. Enjoy President Obama for a while. Lord knows, you deserve a rest.

I think the polls are fairly acurate. I think they were for all of the elections. The problem with the polls is that we do not elect a President by taking a general tally of votes accross the country. Instead we do it state by state. We have the electoral college.

JOM, I think the best thing to do is look at the individual state polls, because you should be more concerned with the electoral vote. If you look at that way then you will see that Obama is way ahead in the electoral count. That is what you should concern yourself with.

Let's just hope that the winner of the Popular Vote actually wins the Presidency this time. In 2000, for the first time in our history, the loser of the Popular vote was appointed President by 9 old men.........& we've seen how well that turned out, haven't we!

FFA pulls things out of ass only if they are convenient for his cause, so I wouldn't pay any attention to him.

    Re: current polls

A week ago, the American people were blaming the Republicans for a increasingly bad economy. Now they are facing the possibility of a major financial crisis.

It's possible that they may be thinking twice about putting a good public speaker and average debater in charge of this mess.

But the voter's reaction to the economy is far more crucial element than anything either candidate has said or any policy they have put in print.

It's a trust issue. And becoming harder to predict. McCain's actual experience dealing with adversity may become a factor if things continue on this trend line.
