McCain healthcare plan: a step backwards

McCain's attack ads are a feeble attempt to divert attention from the massive tax increase he plans to sneak into the health care system by eliminating tax incentives on employment-based health care benefits, taxing American working families and employers for health benefits for the first time ever to the tune of $3.6 trillion dollars.

Recent studies of McCain's health care tax, a replica of a plan George W. Bush pushed early on, would boot as many as 27 million out of the employment-based insurance system, leaving millions of families at the mercy of private insurance companies in the expensive individual market.

The spin on that is incredibly wrong. And it does not look like you read the whole article that you posted.

M's plan would lower health care costs. In a world where people go to the doctor and they never even ask how much a procedure will cost the doctors are free to charge whatever they can get away with. The reason we have high health care expenses is because we have removed competition from the market. Employers pick your insurance and, you, the person who gets it has no say in making sure that it is competitive. Health care should be between a person and his doctor not between the doctor and the employer mediated by an insurance company with the patient having no say.

M wants to eliminate the incentive for the employer to take away your ability to make your own decisions. But contrary to what you said this does not represent a tax increase because he will give the tax break directly to the employee. Shifting the benefit of the tax break from the employer to the employee is a good thing. This gives you control and lowers health care costs for all. It also reduces government costs and allows employers to pay higher salaries so that you can take the savings on health expenses and use it for whatever you want to use it on.

I have been saying that this is what we need to do for awhile now. I didn't know that M advocated this plan. Thank you for letting me know. Before I was voting for M primarily because he is not O and because I like Palin. I have been worried that he is just too much like a democrat. But now I have reason to support, not just Palin, but M too.
