Conservatives today, seem to have no use for government.
They, it seems, consider that government can't do anything right.
They place their stock in the free market, and not in the government.
They don't seem to mind too much, when the President circumvents the Constitution in the name of expediency.
And, they hide from the law and public scrutiny at every turn.
So now, it occurs to me, that many conservatives might be entirely much happier, if there were no such things as the US government, and the world was run entirely by corporations.
The reality here, is that the US government has a difficult time maintaining itself in a global environment, in any other way than through economic control. That reality, has just been impressed upon us by the Islamic extremists. Nuclear weapons are useless against them.
And, from the government's standpoint, a world in which there are "many" corporations that are more powerful than the US government, is untenable.
And then, furthermore, if some two-bit Arab terrorist can get nuclear components, then so can a rogue corporation. And THEY, could be considerably more effective in delivering it.
So, am I sniffing something here, resembling a "shift in allegiance"?
And, if we are entering a world in which government and corporations are one and the same, then HOW does that dovetail with conservative principles of "small government"? Corporations verticalize, don't they?
How about "fiscal sanity"? The nature of corporate business is to cut costs at the bottom and leave plenty of headroom at the top.
How about "strong defense posture"? North American Union?
What do conservatives REALLY want?
