Senator Barack Obama’s attitude toward his opposition is currently his biggest obstacle in this campaign. He has angered and alienated the vast majority of Republicans without being for anything substantial enough to secure broad moderate support. In 2004, Senator John Kerry lost because he ran as a Democrat for the Presidency, instead of as an American for America. President Bill Clinton understood this distinction. He ran on the Economy and delivered a feel-good brand of politics we haven’t seen since. Never underestimate the power of humility and happiness in a candidate.
John McCain is running as an American, on a Country before Party platform that actually inspires moderates. This may not be enough to allow McCain to overcome the fact that after eight years of President George W. Bush, the country is ready for a real change. If Senator McCain can succeed in reaching across the aisle, reaching out to independents, and distancing himself from President Bush, I think he has a very real shot at winning in November. The fact that, with the entire country sick and tired of the Republican Party, Obama is still not way ahead of McCain in the polls is a remarkable failure for the Obama Campaign.
Democrats don’t seem to have any humility at all. They act as though Republicans are all just a bunch of stupid, unintelligent hicks. This doesn’t help the Democrats. All this does is galvanize the Republicans against Obama. This is what McCain has going for him: people voting against Obama, people voting for Governor Palin, and people voting for John McCain. Whatever those numbers add up to be, its going to be enough to keep this election close to the last minute.

That's the problem McCain is going to have to overcome if he wants to get elected. He has to make people confident that he will not continue this insane empowerment of the federal government and, frankly, McCain is going to have to lie on this issue if he wants to get elected.
