For those concerned about the influence of Reverend Wright

You'll be realy disturbed to hear what Sarah Palin's church is teaching her. Here's David Brickner, the man Palin's pastor invited to speak at her church last week, discussing God's 'judgement of unbelief':

"Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can't miss it."

Lest we be concerned that this was only a guest speaker in an otherwise moderate church, here's the regular pastor discussing John Kerry:

"I'm not going tell you who to vote for, but if you vote for this particular person, I question your salvation. I'm sorry."

and on criticising President Bush's reaction to Katrina:

"I hate criticisms towards the President, because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell. That's what it'll get you."

I hope all those who expressed worry over how a candidate could associate with a church expressing radical views for many years take this to heart.

That's as may be, but Sarah's pastor doesn't dress funny. And he's white.

I was watching some of this on the news last night and Caffeine has done a noble thing here is bringing it up. The noise made about Rev. Wright on this forum got fairly noxious at times. I think its Palin's turn to do some explaining. Unfortunately she's not ready for prime time and is still being indoctrinated she'll respond when told she's ready.

Just wanted to repeat the reason why this thread is going to be a ghost town, in case you missed it.

Wow. Firebrand stuff indeed. Some weak minded person might go straight from one of these extremist sermons and do something like, oh, take his grandmother to lunch at Denny's.

Shocking. The whole course of Western thinking is obviously at stake.

As opposed to your typical member of Wright's congregation who gets up after the sermon, shoots a few white people from the church house steps, then drives around for a bit and sets random white people's houses on fire, then finally defecates on Old Glory. Ayup.

Lol, nice try but it's simply not going to get the kind of scrutiny and criticism that Wright got...and deservingly so.

Bring it up all you wan't it's not going to stick for the simple reason that Americans aren't as stupid as the rest of the world might think and it serves as a poor comparison.

I read that Obama seems to be the popular choice in the rest of the world as well. Well you guys are definately the ones we need to be listening to. Lax immigration policies in Britain, Germany, France and the Netherlands....( In 20 years you can say bye bye to Britain and hello to the newest member of the Islamic federation ), out of control taxation and socialized substandard medicine is exactly what we deserve right ? No it's not.

A step towards socialism is a step away from freedom and liberty and a step closer to mediocrity for our entire nation. That's the future if Obama is elected.

I'm not certain, but I don't think Caffeine was saying Mooselini's pastor was a firebrand. To the contrary, he seems utterly beholden to the quintessential protestant dogma: hell exists to keep us in line...eh, and if you use it correctly you can control people.

Depends on what you consider "dressing funny," I guess. He looks like a smarmy turd to me...

To be fair, I don't think she needs to explain anything; any more than Obama needed to explain Reverend Wright. I was just making a comment on hypocrisy.

Instructing people they'll go to hell for reasoned dissent seems pretty unAmerican to me. And I thought the whole problem with Obama and Wright was that he sat there listening to outrageous views (such as that the Palestinian intifada is God's judgement on Jews for not believeing properly) without disowning them.

Christ almighty - a US poilitics thread about the possibly radical views of people's preachers and you can still turn it into another evil-socialist-liberal-Muslim-fascist-Europeathon! And once again made it clear that you've never been anywhere near Europe.
