I agree that there is a some irony here, but to say that she failed as a parent is uncalled for. I also don't see how this makes her a hypocrite either. If she was advocating her daughter have an abortion, then yes, I would call that hypocrisy.
I don't have a daughter, but I have several nieces. My sister is uncomfortable talking to my one niece about sex. So I do it. I talk about waiting, but I also talk to her about condoms, STDs, getting pregnant at a young age, what that would entail etc. I try to cover all the bases. If she were to still come home pregnant, than does that mean I failed in my attempts. Does it make me a hypocrite if she doesn't take precautions, and she gets pregnant?
As parents, there is only so much that one can do to protect and educate their children concerning life. Sometimes we can do everything the "right" way, and it still isn't enough.
