And nothing will change with Obama in charge. That's the sad part. People do not realize the ramifications. You give expanded power to the President, it may not be that particular president that you have to fear....but what about the next guyor the next guy. Does anyone here think that Obama will bring back the limitations of presidential power? Not if he's actually THE PRESIDENT!!

The terrorists won...no question about it. We have completely changed the way we live our lives and govern our society...because of fear. They accomplished their mission.

I am normally the one to say that people are over-reacting about Bush, but an indefinite state of war is truely a creation of the nazis...


Terrorists are called terrorists because they spread fear, and that is what they have done.

People die because life is dangerous, but it is not worth the liberties of the rest of us.

I saw an interview with Jimmy Carter and despite his problems with the economy, I have still considered him a trustworthy president who truely wants to make peace in the world.

However, when the question was asked if he supported more executive powers, that he may have been opposed to before he got into that office, he said that he did. He said that when you are the president, you "understand" why the president needs its powers and secrecy during some events.

Presidents needs to look beyond what is the best during their one scenario and think about precidents and what their illegal power may mean during another presidency, with someone less trusting.


A kind dictator may not be bad immedietly, but when someone else gains power (which surely will happen) it can be very destructive.

to get together into a VOTING BLOCK, and vote these clowns out of

Obama will make us leave policing Iraq to instead fight terrorists in Afganistan. That is the best way to solve the problem.

Obama will also not reinstate the Patriot Act (I think he said that)

And not to mention that Obama will also not worsen our relations with Russia... (look at McCain and Obama's reaction to the Georgia conflict...)

Obama will also not invade Iran, but he is still to friendly with Israel.

Did I say anything about left or right? Hm.... lemme check.... nope. Not a word.

I just said "Bushie's a doofus", and I mean, I'm "reasonably certain" that left and right would both agree on that at this point. Maybe not "everyone", some people are slow....

Do I think Obama will change this? Hmm.... well, that's a loaded question. Do I think he'll formally declare an end to the War on Terror? Probably not. But will he kinda reduce the focus and energy and expenditure there? Probably.

Do I think he'd specifically rescind an "indefinite state of war"? I don't know. That would be an interesting one. )

What I think is, that this picture is bigger than Obama.

Remember, ONLY THE PEOPLE CAN DECLARE WAR IN THIS COUNTRY. The President, can NOT declare war. He can FIGHT one, for 100 days, without the approval of the People, but Congress holds the purse-strings. So, no money, no war. It's that simple. If we put enough pressure on our elected representatives then the President will HAVE to comply, he'll have no choice.

That's what it means, Michael - you and I have to get involved! Yes?

My observation on politics is this: people in power, tend to do "whatever they want", until someone tells 'em they can't.

Look around - EVERY politician operates that way, there's very few of 'em that have the time or inclination to double and triple check to make sure they're doin' the right thing before they do it.

So, it occurs to me, that it's vital that we tell these people to "stop" when they're stepping over the line. And I mean, the prez isn't generally accessible to ordinary human beings, so we have to go through our congressmen and senators. They DO listen, y'know. Whether they always do what you want them to, is a different question. But they DO listen.

So, hm... what I think Obama will do, is re-focus the nation over the longer term. Kinda guide us back in the direction where a lot of these exteme measures will once again be "un-necessary". Where, you know, the conservatives won't be able to get AWAY with their fear-mongering anymore, 'cause no one'll believe 'em!
