I would guess that alot of people are going to scratch their head and say, "Who is she and why her?"

Obama picks an experienced statesman with a real grasp of foreign policy and McCain picks the governor of one of the least populated and most rural states in the union. I would have thought Lieberman was a better choice.

She has no voting record in Congress. Is picking a Governor a way to put a Republican on the ticket without a record at the federal level?

I can't speak to McCain's rationale. I'll be interested in listening to his reasons for selecting her.

    Interesting thought.

I find this move to be a bit idiotic for McCain. Alaska Republican's are not exactly looking like puritans right now, and while Palin has fought against them, she does have a ghost or two in her closet regarding improper dismissals.

Additionally, what does she bring to the table for McCain? Is she going so supply a huge batch of supporters? I think McCain would have been better off going with Huck or Romney.

Since the whole party virtually voted with Bush in the last 8 years, it makes sense why McCain would pick a Governor. Because the Obama campaign is going to associate McCain with Bush constantly.

Although Biden voted for Iraq, voted for the Patriot Act, etc. McCain has a running mate who didn't, because she wasn't in Congress. It could possibly even out the tickets, since Obama didn't vote either.

But really, it comes down to the Presidential candidates. It always has.

Completely agree but I would choose Huckabee over Romney. A McCain - Romney ticket gives the appearance of a repeat Bush - Cheney administration. Personally, I always thought that he'd pick Lieberman.

Very good point. Alaska's political scene is tarnished right now, and that could give the Obama campaign even more associations and name dropping to use.

One thing about Sarah Palin is that she actually does have a strong ethics history despite the one investigation into the possible illegal firing. She resigned a government position because of too many ethics problems involving her Republican colleagues. She then challenged a sitting Republican Governor in the primary because he was unethical and she won with little support from her own party.

A very interesting choice... still don't know what the final effect will be.

    Interesting though.
