not really sure what you're talking about. you mean people post bail? if you're arrested for anything and post bail, you're free to go. its part of that whole "innocent till proven guilty" thing, you know, another one of our civil liberties.
regardless, gang warfare doesn't exist because they're catching the guys and then letting them go. it exists because they haven't caught the guys yet.
this is where obama's plan to get people more invested in their communities can really help. if people have a sense of ownership and pride in THEIR community, they're going to be less likely to allow this kind of crime and violence to take hold where they live.
What I mean is we have guidelines for sentences but they are rarely followed or some plea deal is arranged so there is little jail time for criminals. If someone breaks the law lock them up for longer periods of time, that is a pretty fair and simple solution. There are a few cities now that lock down entire neighborhoods, punishing everyone within. Collective punishment is wrong.
Obama's plan sounds like he may still be on drugs.
so you liken thinking that people should be responsible for what goes on in their own communities to being on drugs? thats SUCH a bizarre concept?
and there is quite a lot of jail time for criminals. we jail more people for more time than any country in the world. i don't really think thats the issue. the issue is people turning to crime because they have nothing else, the issue is people in their communities not being empowered to take back their own neighborhoods, and the issue is police being underfunded and undermanned.
well but be careful. in these discussions people always say "this CRIMINAL". you're assuming that everyone is automatically known to be a criminal. if you're talking about a fugitive, thats a different story. but a SUSPECT can't just get shot by the police without showing an intent to harm others. namely because you and i and everyone are always potential suspects. do YOU want to get shot at by the police because they think you MIGHT be a suspect?
I believe that the people in these communities need a reason for hope, Obama has no way of creating that hope. The best he or anyone can do is offer a Wal-Mart type job and say "don't worry be happy". It is lunacy at it's best. Obama is part of the problem and therefor can no be the solution.
