In case anyone wants a news article on the subject...

    New York Times - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/29/ny...l?ref=nyregion
Newsday - Rookie cop caught on video pushing bike rider -- Newsday.com

Worthy of note... The cop in question had been on the streets for less than one month. Doesn't excuse his actions, but it's not like this was a veteran officer.

You really should get out and meet some vets in large numbers. They would be fascinated by your ideas.

This is really sad, and I hope that officer loose's his job immediately.

Critical mass has been going on for years now. Its a non-violent monthly protest for cyclists' to assert (non violently) there rights on the road.

And of course...started in my beloved city of San Francsico in 1992 and has grown in popularity all over the world .

Most drivers are quite away of when then happen and know to go around the bikes.

Why this officer was so pissed off is beyond me. You clearly see him knock the cyclists down and only a month on the job....

I've known vets for years, some of them before they left. Some of them are not so much fascinated as they are afflicted.

I mean prosper as they will. There are more of them every month, and when they've had a belly full of nonsense, the will remake the country, as previous generations of victorious veterans have done. The will not be, as one of your references states, "transitioning into civilian life," they will alter it.

They will become involved in politics, they will rise in the commercial affairs of the nation, they will rear children with whom the offspring of weaker persons will be unable to successfully compete.

Almost any difficulties they face, as a group, they will almost certainly overcome.

There is only one hurdle that they may not be able to surmount. If the American People turn their backs on the vets, if they discredit their achievements, that may be a barrier that they don't overcome. And we will all suffer for the loss of their contributions.

Truly, I believe that it is the fear of the returning veterans as victorious warriors that the Democrats in Congress fear. I believe that they see them as a separate species, otherworldly and dangerous.

As far as employers not hiring Reservists, boycotts are certainly in order.

    Bump for update...

Police Officer Seen Shoving Bicyclist on YouTube Indicted

NEW YORK — A New York City police officer has been indicted after being caught on video knocking a bicyclist to the ground.

Lawyer Stuart London says Patrick Pogan must report to the Manhattan prosecutor's office on Tuesday morning.

Cyclist Christopher Long was arrested in July during a Critical Mass ride through Times Square. The monthly bike rides are meant to draw attention to alternatives to motor vehicles.

Police said Long was obstructing traffic and deliberately steered his bicycle into an officer. Charges were dismissed.

A video of the body-check that knocked Long over was posted on YouTube and has been viewed more than 1.6 million times.

Pogan has been stripped of his badge and gun and been assigned to desk duty.
