In 19 fucking 91, Imperial Foods (Hamlet, NC) LOCKED THE FIRE DOORS in their plant. Twenty-five people died because of it.

HOW MUCH MONEY would it have cost to improve fire safety in that crappy little plant? How much money would it have cost to give minimum wage workers a DISCOUNT on the chickens they gutted in 100 degree heat?

See? When profit is the only motive and you're goal is to beat the competition by a few pennies, you'll do anything to bring down costs.

That's why we need somebody REASONABLY objective keeping an eye on things.
