    Relax it and tax it

An interesting article I just ran across. Might be time for some of you to pack your bags and move to Oregon...

SALEM, Ore. - Relax it and tax it.

That's the motto behind a new cannabis initiative that would allow Oregon's state-controlled liquor stores to legally sell marijuana to adults.

Initiative backers said their plan would send 90 percent of the proceeds from the state's sale of marijuana to Oregon's General Fund, which could lower Oregonians' state tax burden.

Looks like someone has the right idea.

They call it weed for a reason...because it IS one!

It doesn't even have to be cultivated. It will grow wild in just about every state in the US. Kentucky probably has the best climate and soil conditions for its propagation. I remember reading that in an encyclopedia years and years ago.

Now, I do not recommend that anyone smoke pot. I know I don't.

Why we ban plants is beyond my comprehension. I understand that we ban poppies because they can be processed into heroine. Marijuana requires no processing.

The logic is illogical. Alcohol is far more addictive and has worse effects on the human body than marijuana. Should we ban grapes? You know they process grapes into wine, right? Should we ban hops and barley? They may process them into beer. Should we ban potatoes? You can make vodka out of those. Should we ban corn? Whiskey.

Please don't eat those mushrooms, they're illegal. Don't chew that peyote, it's illegal. Don't dare to try to grow cocoa. The leaves might get chewed.

Don't even think about growing tobacco. Oh wait...it is far more addictive to some than heroine and we can tax the hell out its sale and use...so nevermind.

Eating certain mushrooms can get you high...ban them. Licking certain frogs can send your mind on a trip. (I don't know who discovered that one.) I guess we can't ban animal species. PETA and environmentalists would go completely nuts.

Give me some tomatoes along with some herbs and spices and I can send you on a high that you would swear you died and went to heaven. Your taste buds would be firing on every level.

I try to find the logic that says one plant should be banned, one plant should just be ignored, and one plant should be promoted to the status of superstardom. It just escapes me. There is no logical progression that can be applied to one plant but devoid of the same logic when it comes to another.

The money this would generate for Oregonians would be incredible. They would be able to do away with whatever State income tax they have.

The fed will have something to say about this, they'll send their DEA thugs to clean up this mess.

A state-run monopoly on marijuana? I hate the argument that drugs should be legalized in order to provide more friggin' tax money for the government. This is an issue of personal freedom, not an opportunity for the parasites to come up with new schemes to steal your money.

Pot will never be legal, not fully. Hell the government still has all that opium, why would they allow you to grow pot?

That's not exactly what's being said, looks like it will be regulated in the same way that alcohol will be regulated, that's not a state-run monopoly. Still it's confusing though, they'll need a liquor license to sell weed? At any rate, pot won't be the first thing sold without a tax, I'm not all that interested in fighting that battle.

It's exactly what's being said. The government will be directly involved in the drug dealing business, while private citizens will still go to prison for doing the same thing. I can only imagine what this government cartel would charge in order to bring about all this revenue.

Oh I see. Well one step at a time then? This is, or would be, progress. I don't see how a government should have a right to sell anything exclusively, perhaps this is a way to combat the fed? What would happen if the federal government raided a state run facility?
