GOP Congressman wants to deport every Iranian

The National Iranian American Council is on high alert after a South Carolina Congressman announced this week that he will introduce legislation which would require the deportation of all Iranians living in America.

The Stop Terrorists Entry Program Act (STEP) was first introduced by Rep. J. Gresham Barrett (R-SC) in 2003 [PDF link]. The updated version, he explained in a media advisory, would bar citizens of Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Syria from entry into the United States. It would further require citizens of those nations who are legally visiting or residing in the United States to be deported within 60 days.

And he's doing this as a response to an American who killed 12 other soldiers at Fort Hood, and a Nigerian who allegedly attempted to blow up an airplane on Christmas Day.

If the apparent problems with such a proposal are not not abundantly clear, the Iranian-American blog niacINsight puts it another way: "The American Army major and Nigerian alleged to have committed those attacks would not have been affected by the STEP Act."

"Twice in the past two months, radical Islamic terrorists have attacked our nation and the Administration has failed to adapt its national security and immigration policies to counter the renewed resolve of those who seek to harm our citizens," Barrett opined.

[/quote]As a man from Georgia I agree 100% with him. I would extend to the banning of all Muslims for the time being as long as we are ay War on Terrorism. This would be a safe precaution to put Americans safety first. We did it to the Japanese in WW2 and we are capable of doing it again while ignoring the PC talking points by the left. I am all for this Act.

Right or wrong, we did it to the Japanese in WW2 because we were at war with Japan. Are you saying we aren't at war with terrorism, but instead are participating in a War on Muslims?

Stellar idea! Imagine how much easier that would make foreign policy, the energy crisis, global warming debate, and more!

His original bill from 2003 talks countries engaged in state-sponsored terrorism.

Besides the obvious stupidity of this idea, the list of countries engaging in this changes constantly, and as far as I can tell, Yemen isn't considered one of them at this time.

The current list according to the State Department website is:

    Iran

    Syria

    Cuba

    Sudan

    State sponsored terrorism

Of course that means nothing as far as threats to our country from terrorism anyway. I don't think we've been attacked by anyone from any of those countries, have we? I don't see how deporting Iranians would have done anything to prevent any attacks we've had.

Nidal Hasan (Ft. Hood shooter) was born in Virginia.

If we are going to start deporting people based on the countries of origin of those who have attacked us, perhaps we should start with Saudi Arabia.

But the real question here is what the fuck is wrong with people in South Carolina that they can't seem to stop electing assholes to represent them?

So you're in favor of splitting up families? I thought conservatives were all about the family and protecting them.
As a Democrat, I take solace in the fact that the Republicans have nominated the guy who lost the nomination to the guy who lost the presidency to the guy who is now the President.
