Controlling Border Important for Most Americans

Adults in the United States have a clear idea of what the most important goal of their immigration policy should be, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 63 per cent of respondents believe gaining control of the border should be a priority, while 28 per cent would prefer to legalize the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Adults in the United States have a clear idea of what the most important goal of their immigration policy should be, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 63 per cent of respondents believe gaining control of the border should be a priority, while 28 per cent would prefer to legalize the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.

In March 2006, the Pew Hispanic Center calculated the number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. at somewhere between 11.5 million to 12 million.

In May 2006, U.S. president George W. Bush addressed the nation to discuss his immigration proposals. Bush outlined five clear objectives: securing the borders, creating a temporary worker program, holding employers to account for the workers they hire, allowing illegal immigrants "who have roots" in the country to apply for citizenship, and helping newcomers assimilate into American society.

On Jun. 18, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson questioned the efficacy of erecting a new border fence, saying, "I believe that if you build a 12-foot wall, pretty soon they’ll start making 13-foot ladders."

Wow, naturally the complete opposite position of the Republocratic candidates for president. There is little doubt at this point that the primaries were a sham. Americans rose up to defeat amnesty and sent McCon to the bottom but Diebold still came though for him in the end.

That's a great theory, but perhaps Americans became more democratic due to our current president. I would agree with you that the voting system in both partys squandered the chances of ron paul and dennis kucinich, but they didn't elect McCain illegally. Also the conservative vote was split between huckabee and mitt romney and others, while all the moderates voted for mccain, because Giulliani was out of the race.

Just thinking about it, I have heard when most people in NJ actualy talk about the fed, illegal immigration or affirmative action they are almost always against it. However, almost all of them are still democrats, so they would normally have different views then that. It may just be the people that talk about politics have different policies then their parties, but I think people are just getting used to disagreeing with their party party on some issues, and not voting to correct it.

More democratic? We got two candidates who represent the polar opposite of American thought on numerous hot-button issues. That's not democratic at all.

It could also be possible that although 63% of those surveyed think that gaining control of the border is important, that many of them voted regarding issues that they thought were more important to them than that.

I happen to think that the only way McCain can win is if he takes a tough stand against immigration, supports drilling in anwar, and reminds the jews that he supports Israel. Anyone disagree?

War in Iran would certainly help McCain win.
