No one put a gun to your head to be a whore, Ben. What amazes me is how fast these turds do a turn around in an attempt to save their worthless rear ends. But then Robert Byrd managed it for countless years. How does the Senator think that they didn’t work on the economy. By creating DeathCare, the Dems have affected the economy in the worst way possible. Sarah Palin warned us.

Senator Ben Nelson, D-Neb., who has come under heavy criticism for his vote on health care reform, now seems to regret the whole thing ever happened. He's down 31 points in the polls against potential challengers for his senate seat and has been in serious damage control mode. Today he requested an interview with Nebraska newspaper the Freemont Tribune where he said the following:

“I think it was a mistake to take health care on as opposed to continuing to spend the time on the economy,” he said.

He complimented President Barack Obama’s handling of the war in Iraq and the troop surge in Afghanistan, and pointed out other administration successes, but said they were areas that “are minor in comparison to health care.”

“I would have preferred not to be dealing with health care in the midst of everything else, and I think working on the economy would have been a wiser move,” he said.

Nelson also tried to spin the secret deal he cut in exchange for his vote on the legislation:

Nelson said by insisting on certain changes before casting his vote he “took a bad bill and made it better.” He pointed out aspects of the Senate’s bill he said will benefit Nebraska, and called the “Cornhusker Kickback” a “sideshow” that’s gotten too much attention. Such dissmissals seem unlikely to placate the 13 state attorney generals threatening to sue over Nelson&#39;s kickback.<BR clear=all>

Nelson: Health care before economy was "mistake"

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) continued the long Washington tradition Tuesday of lawmakers returning to their home states for recess and making unusually blunt statements.

In an interview with the Fremont Tribune, Nelson took a shot at President Barack Obama&#39;s priorities, saying the White House should not have put health care ahead of dealing more directly with jobs and the economy.

“I think it was a mistake to take health care on as opposed to continuing to spend the time on the economy,” Nelson said.

Then, he defended the so-called Cornhusker Kickback, which was the special Medicaid funding deal in which the federal government would forever pick up Nebraska&#39;s share of the Medicaid expansion. Nelson said it really was an attempt to provide the same treatment for other states down the road.

But Nelson also said it was not among the issues he considered a deal breaker, suggesting the loss of it in the conference report might not mean he will oppose the final bill.

“I would have preferred not to be dealing with health care in the midst of everything else, and I think working on the economy would have been a wiser move,” he said.

Nelson also said the legislation wasn’t as rushed as people might think, having been in the works for almost a year. But he explained that setting deadlines is often what prompts governments to action.

“One thing I’ve found in Congress is that if there is no urgency, things don’t get done. Leadership always has an urgency,” he said. “Deadlines and crises are the very nature of how legislation passes.

“In this case, it was so public for so long, with all the anger and all the town hall meetings and all the coverage that this kept getting, that’s why I think everybody’s felt rushed, because they set a number of different deadlines and didn’t meet them. I think it was unwise in retrospect,” he said.

Nelson said by insisting on certain changes before casting his vote he “took a bad bill and made it better.” He pointed out aspects of the Senate’s bill he said will benefit Nebraska, and called the “Cornhusker Kickback” a “sideshow” that’s gotten too much attention.

Nelson said the two keys to securing his vote to advance the bill were eliminating the so called public option and not allowing federal funds to pay for abortions. He called those provisions “deal breakers,” and believes he accomplished them.

The cynic in me: Nelson is either trying to distance himself from his vote on the HCR debacle, or feigning some folksy attempt at honesty to salvage votes.

    Opinion?

He is supposed to be a moderate, so he is out trying to save his ass. He got the two things he wanted and the rest he could care less about. But now he sees the rest of the bill that he should have cared about, because it&#39;s a shit bill and he knows it but it&#39;s to late to do anything about.

Regarding the issue at hand; I&#39;ll be glad to see Ben Nelson gone.

He&#39;s not honest, holding up the healthcare vote to get what he can out of it, as opposed to voting for it or against it, on its merits.
When it comes to GOP stupidity, there's no need to make stuff up.
