Income and Tax Distribution in the US

INCOME RANGE (K).............. POPULATION %............ INCOME TAX %
    < 25....................................... 28.2.......................... -2.8
    25- 50.................................... 26.6.............................1.8
    50-75 .....................................18.3......... ................... 3.4
    75-100................................... 10.9........................... 11.3
    100-150................................... 9.9........................... 12.0
    150-200................................... 3.2........................... 28.3
    200 +.......................................2.6 ...........................45.9

Hummm, 26.8 % of the households are paying 97.6% of the income taxes.

And sunsetting tax cuts would cause an 11.4 % tax increase on the 5% currently paying more than 70 % of the taxes

I put it together from research.

The income vs. population is avalible at numerous sites, but I used one from a Wiki site on US income because the income ranges matched my income tax %.

The income tax % vs. income range came from a government paper published about Bush's tax cut proposals.

Sorry, but I didn't write down the web address of these sites. But, the numbers were copied verbatum. These numbers would not be hard to recover, with a little digging.

I could really give a shit if 1% of the population paid 99% of the taxes. If that 1% owns 7 homes, 6 cars, 3 boats and any damn thing else they could ever want, who cares? Are they comfortable? Are they rich? And most importantly, would they like to trade positions with somebody who doesn't pay a dime in taxes? I doubt it.

Exactly, Prag, if someone wanted to make a chart about what percentage of their income people pay in taxes then that would have more worth.

The rich make more money, so they may even be paying most of the taxes with a flat tax.

People need context for their percentages and statistics to mean anything beyond some emotional responce.
