Thread: Top two Air Force officials resigning

Look we either have an extremely inept military or something stinks.

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Robert Gates ousted the Air Force's top officials Thursday, holding them to account in a historic military shake-up for failing to ensure the security of sensitive materials, including nuclear missile warhead fuses that were mistakenly shipped to Taiwan.

Gates cited two embarrassing incidents in the past year. In one, a B-52 bomber was mistakenly armed with six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and flown across the country without anyone realizing nuclear weapons were aboard.

I don't blame Gates, but this kind of stuff never made any sense to me. If you place the blame on your leadership and you are in charge of your leadership aren't you just as responsible as them? Those Air Force officials probably worked in Washington just like Gates does. They aren't any more responsible than he is. And while they certainly have fault, if the ultimate problem is with them than I believe it is with Gates as well.

Well, I don't have to post this then; exactly what I was going to say.

I never understood the logic, but obviously if you are in a power position and still have friends in power positions, then you MUST always have Fall Guys.

Yea, somthing is not right, I heard this story in the periferal one day and did not follow up on it. Did the Tiawanese give them back?

I believe they did a couple of months ago, if I remember correctly.

"Resigned"? No, they were fired, & with good reason. there will be more heads rolling on this before it's done. May not make headlines because most are field officers, but there will be more.

Migs, let's say I accidentally carried nuclear weapons across the country with out realizing after my boss set up the safegaurds to prevent such a thing from happening. Do you think they will give my boss a medal for job performance?

I would like to know how your going to get a nuke without the top boss knowing about or authorizing it.
