Barack Obama and the black vote

Many are saying that African Americans are only voting for barack Obama because he looks like them and this is simply not true.

George Cook owner of the African American web site Let's Talk Honestly discusses this issue and mentions the fact that just last summer African Americans were questioning Barack's "blackness" and wondering out loud if he could even understand some of the issue they have.

He discusses the fact that Barack Obama EARNED the black vote and that black voters should be given more credit than they currently are. You can watch the 5 minute video here:

    92% is a big number.
I don't know that very many blacks said he wasn't black enough. They usually reserve that for conservative blacks. I believe the term they use is "oreo", or that's what they called Michael Steele of Md.

Obama got 90% of the black vote or more in many contests. Despite years of pandering to them, Hillary Clinton, wife of "the first black president," was dropped like a lead balloon by the black community.

Obama would be nowhere if he weren't black. Let's talk honestly: Obama's whole campaign is built upon race.

It seems the black vote was slow to rise, but shot up considerably once it was obvious Barack was a real contender..

Exactly & i don't know why people would deny that blacks are/will vote for him because he is black. There's noting wrong with that, other than not looking past the race. Not all of them mind you, but most, IMO.

    ....
I am saying it. Blacks are voting for him because he is black. Maybe it is not true but how dare people try to suggest that the white voters did not vote for Obama down in West Virginia because they are racist. I do not accept it one way but not the other. Especially sinnce blacks are averaging over 90% vote for Obama and whites in West Virginia no where near that high a percentage.

Many blacks, not African Americans, are indeed voting for Obama based on race.

As others have pointed out, there's no way that Obama is "earning" all 90% of the black vote. Remember, the black community threw the Clintons under the bus when Billy supposedly made a "racist" comment, and therefore they ARE voting based on race.

So even before the Clinton race card fiasco, race was the issue for black voters. Before they thought that Obama wasn't "black" enough, and now all of a sudden the blacks are turning out for him in ridiculous landslides over Hillary.

Now, granted, not all blacks vote based upon race, but it's fair to say at most 90% of them vote based upon race.

He didn't "earn" the vote, he was the beneficiary of "incendiary and racist" remarks by Bill Clinton.

Once the media started whispering "the Clintons are racists" in the ears of the black voters, they began to turn out for Obama in droves.

In all reality though, how do YOU think Obama "earned" the black vote?
