VLADIVOSTOK, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Varyag, a Russian Slava-class missile cruiser dubbed 'the killer of aircraft carriers,' has started a series of live-firing exercises in the Pacific for the first time since a recent overhaul, a fleet spokesman said Monday.

Good for Russia. God do I miss them! When I came into the world there was a balance in power that served the peace and stability of the world, with only that small little down side of, well, the possibility of global nuclear war. That said, it was worth having a noble enemy. Now look at the rabble we're fighting. They aren't even worth being considered our enemies. They shouldn't even be noticed. If we weren't so wrapped up in the globalist agenda we wouldn't need to pay them any mind.

lmao Slava class cruisers are a Soviet design from the 1960s with the Varyag itself being laid down in 1979 and finally completed in 1988.

The Americans should be terrified by this technological monstrosity of 1970s Soviet engineering.

May I also add that the Russian Navy is both puny and backwards compared to the current American Navy.

I fail to see what the big deal about a pseudo-militaristic and reactionary Russia sending some old ass Soviet ship into the Pacific is.

Russians won't intervene directly. They may arm Iranians, though...

I think they might prefer to use the opportunity of moral ambiguity from the west to pursue their own agenda in the Turkic Republics.

I do agree with Michaelr on this one. If the United States attacks Iran, I expect Russia to do something as well.

This is a country that possesses minimal ability to project its influence, both politically and militarily. A great example of this imbalance of power is the situation in the Ukraine, a country that borders Russia that the US able to contest Russian influence in despite its absurdly close proximity to Russia's center of power and traditional cultural ties. Other examples include Central Asia with US bases in former Soviet states like Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan - and the US also playing a major role in Kazakhstan once the bedrock of Russian hegemony in Central Asia.

You're telling me that Russians - A country with an economy that amounts to less than 1/6th of the US total, with less than half the US's population and has been in a decrepit state since the early 1990s.

Besides of course launch the only viable military asset it truly has, nuclear weapons - And risk World War III over a theocratic Islamic regime that the Russians barely trust anyways?
