That is correct it was not ratified by every state which is why many people get away without paying income tax . It goes something like this . You don't pay income tax . After 3 to 10 years the IRS takes you to court for tax evasion . It all comes down to the Judges ruling on whether or not income tax is legal or not . IIRC 70% lose but a good 30% win the case and don't pay . I once read a good article about how to go about it , something down the lines of telling the IRS to fill out your taxes for you because you cant find anything in the constitution that makes you liable for it .

This isn't the same page I was on before, but basically it's the same. In one article, a judge tells the guy that this subject has been ruled on so many times that they no longer need to explain it. If you click on some of the titles, you will see what I am talking about. There are many claims that the 16th amendment was ratified, but I still don't see the proof. One article claims that 40 states did. I'll have to read more, but check it out for yourself.

Ambition is a beautiful thing and I don't take you as the kind of person to change his mind once he believes a thing is true through and through. As long as you feel something akin to consent when the government takes some of your money away, I doubt the higher taxes will upset you. But for those fellows that feel dissent, well, there is a great deal of frustration there.

Why do you think that just because you don't mind paying on your income and on what you own for social services that others should be forced to too? That's probably a terrible way of putting it. Let me rephrase: Why should there not be a compromise for all citizens, such that, while everyone pays taxes on what they buy, they are not required to pay taxes on what they own?
