    U.N. racism investigator to visit U.S. from Monday

    GENEVA (Reuters) - A special U.N. human rights investigator will visit the United States this month to probe racism, an issue that has forced its way into the race to secure the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

    <snip>
    Race has become a central issue in the U.S. election cycle because Sen. Barack Obama, the frontrunner in the battle for the Democratic nomination battle, stands to become the country's first African American president.
    His campaign has increased turnout among black voters but has also turned off some white voters in a country with a history of slavery and racial segregation.

    <snip>
    In a report last year he said Islamophobia had grown worldwide since the September 11 2001 attacks on the United States, carried out by al-Qaeda militants.

    I agree, I'm glad I'm not the only person concerned about the blatant racism in the democrat party, but the UN.... Geeez. That's like sending the Detroit Police Department to investigate police brutality in New Orleans. It's probably more of "how to do it" training meeting, than a meeting to solve any problem.

    Islamophobia - LMAO. Let's break this down. You have Islamic highjackers take over airplanes on 9/11 and kill over 3000 people. You have Islamic terrorists in almost every corner of the world terrorizing, and blowing themselves up along with women, children and innocent bystanders. Why wouldn't the world be suspicious and concerned about Islam. It's not a phobia if it's something that is real threat.

    Interesting take on this. Here's the pertinent part of the article.

    His campaign has increased turnout among black voters but has also turned off some white voters in a country with a history of slavery and racial segregation.

    So they are looking as to why white sin this country won't vote for a black man and you take it as an investigation into racism in the Democratic party? Man, that's desperation there.

    Diene, a Senegalese lawyer who has served in the independent post since 2002, will report his findings to the U.N. Human Rights Council next year.
    However, the United Nations has almost no clout when it comes to U.S. domestic affairs and is widely perceived by many as interfering. The United States is not among the 47 member states of the Geneva-based forum, but has observer status.

    Okay. So they are looking at it and studying it. So?

    The U.N. has no clout on this. If they are going to compile information, they can have at it. Their research on the matter is no more credible than research that has been done independently here over and over.

    One world government!

    I don't want to get in too much of an arugement, but when I hear these types of arguements I just think about the crusades, the Monroe doctorine (with our god given right) or the colonization of America. The root of the problem isn't in the actual religions (exampled of Christianity above) but when a government or a group of people want to accomplish some other goal they will use religion ro justify it, even if the religion doesn't inherently have any justification.

    You can say that statistically Islam is causing more harm then other religions but that isn't because of the religion.

    Religions are easily maluble to make people do horrible things, and in a few hundred years or some period of time, I think Islam will be as civilized as Christianity or any other religion despite some of their other mishaps in the past.

    I agree with most of your point. I guess the problem with Islam is that they haven't caught with the rest of World's religion in civility. I don't see much effort in the Islam to change.

    I see a lot of people playing Islam off as a mis-understood, but peaceful religion. I don't see that. Countries that are governed under Islam routinely hang people for being homosexuality, oppress woman and minorities in their countries, preach violence and hate with their citizens. I really don't see the peace in Islam.

    I wish they would move out of the US. Who in this world actually takes the UN seriously anyway? They rarely stand behind any resolution they make. They allow travesties like Darfar to occur routinely, but waste time getting involved with elections in the most stable country in the World, the US.

    Don't they have something better to do?

    & don't forget, during the time that saddam was slaughtering his own people, the UN human rights committee had a representative from Iraq on that committee. Yeah, we should take the UN seriously.
