    Why do Protests fail?

Organized protesting fails time after time. Since the MLK Civil rights movement, protests of all types from Anti-Nukes to Animal Rights and Anti-War seem to fail. Why?

I think it is sociological phenomina that reflects on the messangers rather than the hearers. I would rather hear from people with a well articulated arguement that I disagree with than some disgracefully attired, angry, sign holders, with a one line message that in reality implies no obligation on my part to listen. And they are practicing the art of insanity, "To do the same thing over and over expecting a differant result each time" that is what insanity is.

    I disagree with your premise.

Example. People protested about the OJ trial and the judge fearing violence in LA affected the trial.

I hear inklings of a similar threat if Obama does not get the nomination.

Protests are mainly held to raise the level of public awareness of a particular
    point of view.
They rarely "fail" to do that in some way.

Because "the masses" aren't sympathetic to their motives nor means or methods.

Why people think that obstructing the private business and daily affairs of the lawful private citizens of a community by engaging in disruptive behavior, preventing public access and egress to public areas, engaging in property damage, creating public disturbances is the way to get them to give sympathy to their political views has always been curious to me.

I thought so in the 60's when I attend a couple of anti-war "protest" and watched them nationwide in the news.

Why don't they do like other points of view and use the media and other peaceful means? Why can't they convince people to their view points simply by talking with them like everyone else?

Obama says he can do that.

What I would ask is more in line with, "Why do people tolerate so much shit". 80% want the borders closed yet do nothing, 65%~75% want the war to end yet do nothing. There is a long list that one can choose from, and what to the people do? Nothing, that is insane. Could you imagine 65% standing to and saying enough is enough, how about 10%? Do you think that things would change?? Fuck people stand up for your rights and voice your complaints, it is time to stop taking it. Things are not getting any better for it!

I know who my State Representative is. Maybe if the masses made better use of the system...
