What Is The Big Deal About A U.S. Attack on Iran?

Why are so many people opposed to a U.S. bombing campaign against Iran?

Does anyone really doubt that Iran is hostile to the interests of the U.S.?

Does anyone really doubt that Iran is interested in acquiring a nuclear weapon?

And what would be the big deal about a couple of weeks of U.S. air attacks on Iran?

A couple of thousand sorties, probably 700 sorties drop weapons. An average of 8,000 lbs. of ordnance delivered per sortie.

That is only 5.6 million lbs. of ordnance delivered. Well within the capabilities of the U.S. Air Force and Carrier Aviation.

And think of the damage it could do to Iranian facilities.

Surely such an attack would be a worthwhile endeavour.

I am pro-life and against big spending.

Yes, there is no reason to believe Iran is hostile to the interests of the U.S.

Does anyone really doubt that Iran is interested in acquiring a nuclear weapon?
Yes. Not that it matters whether they have nuclear weapons or not.

    Air attacks destroy.

And think of the damage it could do to Iranian facilities.

    No, it wouldn't.

    No, it wouldn't.

Destruction of Iranian military assets and nuclear facilities is a positive thing.

I'm not against bombing Iran, when & IF there's a need to.
As for the "a couple of weeks", nope, that is not the way it would be done. Look, we bombed the former Yugoslavia back to the stone age from 35,000 feet & that took 30 days, & they didn't have anything to fight back with.

The U.S. bombing campaign in Yugoslavia was very slow getting started.

    I was actually being pessimistic.

Pentagon planning is for only a 36 hour bombing campaign.

My husband flew F-4s over N. Vietnam. I don't wish that "kind of sortie" on anyone, unless it is absolutely necessary.

How many American pilots might be killed or captured in such a campaign?

    Ten or twenty perhaps.

If those airstrikes prevented 5 or 6 suicide attacks in Iraq, then we would be coming out ahead.

It will bring harm to people.

I have my doubts, but either way, I don't care.

As an American, I know how good nukes make a nation feel. So why shouldn't they?

    Death? Destruction? Loud noise?

No, its not. They need that stuff to defend their homeland against U.S.-Israeli aggression.
