    5 dollar gas!

Evidently gas has hit $3.79 in some places in Ohio, very recently. It's still $3.69 for regular unleaded here (the Duluth/Superior area of Minnesota/Wisconsin) and $3.99 for premium. Coolio and 2lane are starting this thread to track the price of gas in the regions represented by the members of this forum. Were curious to see how gas is going to play out over the course of the summer into the fall election and, here's the question, will prices come down for the general campaign and rise again after? We'd like to know. Because its Coolio and 2lane we kinda feel its a bi-partisan thing and we hope most of you will going along and contribute. The moderators have kindly agreed to make this a sticky.

We would add, because this is a sticky Michael has asked that we stick to the subject. He hasn't said anything about not getting contentious occassionally. Yet.

I would really like us to start improving our domestic fuel production. And I don't mean just drilling for oil in previously untapped areas. I also want better bioethanol production: cellulose-utilizing technology, so we don't steal away from food sources (i.e., being able to use the the corn stalk and cobs, not the kernels). I want better coal-based electricity-generating technology for electric cars (see ABC123 technology) AND ones that capture the emitted carbon. I want our fuel dollars to be spent in the US and not abroad.

I have heard some say that as we approach the elections that oil prices will drop. Maybe but I doubt it. There are predictions that it may hit $200 a barrel this year, again I doubt it. It is my opinion that the $200 rumor is started so when it ONLY hits $170 it will be a relief. What happens next year is anyones guess, but if the economy stays on the track oil could hit 250~300 a barrel. I also see gas at $5.50 this year no matter what.

I would have to agree. People may not be planning on long driving vacations this year but I don't see any immediate change in local driving behavior. Prices are going up on and for everything but I can't tell if were really hurting yet.

Jeez, groceries are terriable, everything has gone up, not as high as my B/P yet, but almost.
I can't tell that things are slowing down either. But then Tx in general & San Antonio in particular is fairing pretty well.

Well, since we're doing nothing now to make the cost of energy go down, there's no reason that it won't go up.

The real question is which of the Big Three Candidates has the best policy for affecting the real causes of higher fuel prices.

The real answer is none of them.

    Ain't that peachy?
