    Nigerian Ceasefire Due To Obama

Rebels who have stepped up attacks on Nigeria's oil industry in the last month said on Sunday they were considering a ceasefire appeal by U.S. presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has launched five attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta since it resumed a campaign of violence in April, forcing Royal Dutch Shell to shut more than 164,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd).

This is encouraging. I'd like to see more of this from our elected leaders.

Have you thought of the diplomatic potential of having someone like Obama as president?

We just elected a career diplomat as our PM - within his first six months in office he addressed the Chinese people in fluent Mandarin - every foreign trader on the Australian stock exchange started to rub their hands together with glee - this opens SOOOOO many business, economic, diplomatic and every other kind of door to one of the biggest emerging nations on Earth.

Now if this is a sign of the reaction from the African continent - then think of the possibilities for America.

It is time and beyond time that many moved past the "Iffen they don't like us we'll nuke 'em" thinking that has characterized the last 8 years of American politics

I guess the Liberals only cry out in disgust, and indignation, when it looks
like Americans are at war for oil.

Someone else does it and its not even a relevant topic.

I think the world will love Obama, because the people he is going to hurt are all American. Which is pretty much what everyone has been hoping and praying for in the next US President. But, at least we'll get a break from hearing all these Europeans bitching and whining twenty-four seven. I think the real test will come after the terrorists test the Obama Administration. If Obama shows weakness (what else could we possibly expect?) then we'll see more attacks. I think after Obama surrenders to the terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan, things will get a little bit better here at home. We'll no longer be considered a super power. Maybe then we can begin bringing all our troops home from Europe, pull out of NATO, pull out of the Middle East and Africa, and Asia. Things will get better, but we'll have more terrorism. But, who cares. Even at their worst I doubt they'll cost us more than two or three thousand lives a year.

I think the second we give up our power in the world, we'll all sleep a lot better at night. This is the one possible positive of an Obama Administration. The other positive is four to eight years of getting to watch his Yoko Ono like wife, Michele Obama, yap that ridiculous mouth of hers.

Of course! That is it! We are all hoping Obama will win because we hate America and think he will ruin it

    Yeah! Sure!

The ter-or=ists is a gonna git us!

If you truly believe that then demand that George Bush be allowed to stay on as President - after all isn't he the one that has saved you from terrorism?

Diplomacy is your best defence against terrorism - "with us or against us" was a disaster for your country - and mine

Bush's aggression has saved us from more terrorist attacks. But once he is out of office, AQ is going to test the new administration. What they are looking for is a weak president. I think Obama will fit the bill quite nicely. However, that said, they had every reason to believe that President Bush was going to be a weak ass president too, just like his father. And, unfortunately for them, while Bush was screwing us here at home, he was also killing lots of Islamists overseas.

Diplomacy with terrorists has been 100% ineffective. Just look at Europe's miserable failures talking with Iran or the UN failures dealing with the violence in Darfur. Diplomacy only works when both sides can mutually benefit and there is no mutually beneficial result to this situation. Which is why President Bush goes with the whole "with us or against us" nonsense. What he should of said is, "Due to terrorism, my administrations flexibility is low. However, we respect dissenting opinions and are willing to work with world leaders in order to make things as painless and productive as possible". But that isn't the cowboy way ya' hear.

George Bush is only slightly better than McCain, Obama, and Clinton. By the smallest of all conceivably small margins, in my opinion.
