    If this isn't suitable for US politics feel free to move it, but I didn't know where it should go...

    Anybody heard about this case?

    According to media reports, 25-year-old Eutisha Revee Rennix, of Brooklyn, was in Au Bon Pain when she began to complain of severe pain and shortness of breath. Rennix later fell to the ground with convulsions and foaming of the mouth.

    Two paramedics who were in the coffee shop told patrons to call 911 because they were on their break, according to witnesses.

    When an ambulance finally arrived, it was too late. Rennix died shortly after being transported to the hospital. Sadly, doctors were not able to save the life of her infant daughter, Jahniya Renne Woodson who died about two hours after her mother.

    Rennix also has a 3-year-old son who witnessed the incident in the coffee shop.

    The beginning of health care reform. Get use to these stories if it passes.

    Yeah the paramedics should have helped the woman.

    Reminds me of a story similar to this one, but happened a long time ago (maybe 20 years or so);

    Woman goes to a gas station to get gas late at night right before the station was to close. A man begins to rob the woman and she fights back against the criminal. She runs to the station door just as the attendant locks the door and then watches her get stabbed and murdered right there. Turns out the attendant was holding a gun too, but he just let it happen. His reasoning was it wasn't his problem, he could have been hurt, he doesn't get paid enough, blah blah blah. I'll just say, the attendant got his eventually, but I'll leave it at that.

    So people will act selfishly under HCR as they do without it? I don't see the threat of HCR if people are just going to act the very same.

    If this story is true, how does health care reform affect them currently? I'm not convinced it has much to do with them even when it's officially enacted.

    If paramedic companies (many are private), knew they'd get paid everytime they pick up a patient, seems like they'd be more likely to pick up patients.

    The details are incomplete but the scenario seems to hinge on whether or not they had their para-medic equipment. I would speculate if they did not have their equipment, they could not have rendered proper paramedic assistance. If that was the situation, sounds to me like they did the next best thing, get 911 on the horn and a crew to lend assistance with the vehicle and proper equipment. Isn't that what happens in an emergency...call 911. Unfortunately, the patient died before assistance arrived.

    Can you just type something that makes sense please? I get the analogy of health care being similar to going to the DMV, or the post office... but how does that have anything to do with these paramedics?

    As it is, right now, we DON'T HAVE national health care and this happened. Your point is that this will be the norm under national health care, yet it happened at a time that doesn't validate your point.

    Can you elaborate please?

    From what I'm reading the paramedics did nothing to help this woman, and they weren't the party who called 911. 2 FDNY helped the woman and called 911.

    Paramedics take an oath to assist others in need of medical emergencies. They are on leave for this and an investigation is open.

    And if the EMS didn't have the proper equipment to assist these people, then that is all on them as its a requirement to have such equipment... this is also a part of the investigation.
