Thread: Rev Wright calls some Americans "Stuck on stupid"

In a colourful speach to say the least, and in front of an audience that was expected to be 6000, he spoke to over 10,000 Church members and the media. Rev Wright neither apologized for nor showed any signs of regret for previous remarks that have infuriated some.

The main point to his speech was that different groups of Americans act differently and that doesn't make one better than the other, just different from the other, and we could all work together if we try. He labeled people and media who continue to criticize him as "stuck on stupid"

He also in a very round about way issued another unofficial endorsement for Obama, then made sure that the ACLU and the Church Organization was NOT officially endorsing Obama

I just heard poet Nikki Giovanni speak in Greensboro, NC, today. She packed the old Carolina Theater. I got in late (had to grab a beer) and stumbled into the balcony and found a seat way off to the side.

She was great. Like Wanda Sykes only poetic. She spent a fair amount of time confirming what I've felt all along: whites just haven't paid attention to blacks for 40 years so they're shocked by talk in an average black church. The audience roared over and over as she called out Hillary Clinton for running a racist campaign and made no bones about supporting Obama. It WAS like a black church in the theater. Lots of "uh-huhs" and "that's rights" shouted from all over. I'm sure her shtick would be called "racist" by the Wright-bashers here.

After some great stories and few poems the lights went up and I found out I was the only white guy in my section of the balcony.

...anyway...I found it positive, funny, inspirational and more behind the idea of Obama.

Ugh. Giovanni is the pimp of collegiate rabble-rousing. She's the socialist guru on campus in Blacksburg. I just wanted to say, that if you enjoyed her, it only goes to prove how morally enlightened you are and is a credit to your color-blindness and tolerance of all forms of cultural diversity. You should celebrate yourself as much as possible, for the majority of Americans are still enslaved to their intolerant bigotries and independent thoughts.

Personally, I think "Nikki" should fight crime.

As tales of Cho's worrisome behavior continued to surface Wednesday, a renowned poet and author who taught the 23-year-old gunman called the notion that he was troubled "crap" and said he was "mean."

"I knew when it happened that that's probably who it was," Giovanni said, referring to her former pupil. "I would have been shocked if it wasn't."
Cho's poetry was so intimidating -- and his behavior so menacing -- that Giovanni had him removed from her class in the fall of 2005, she said. Giovanni said the final straw came when two of her students quit attending her poetry sessions because of Cho.

You post a quote in which Giovanni makes a concise statement given to the press about how she noticed Cho as a problem as way of...? What? saying she didn't do enough to stop a crazy person from easily buying a couple guns?

You should have some conversations with Hispanic social workers and advocates for the poor in their communities. The ones I have had contact with indicate to me that the lobbies for black interests try to work systematically to be the "victims of choice" among advocates. There is open competition among underprivileged minorities.

I think whites, especially those who give money and political support, have a full plate and a limited attention span. There isn't enough time in a life to have cultural awareness of everything.

Dr. King's vision needs more allies among all ethnic groups....

BTW-That fool is speaking at the National Press Club now. He has taken us back to the 1700's in his rant, & has spoken of "hush bushes" where the slaves would hide from the slavers & uncle toms in order to preach & pray in their fashion.
Now, according to history, he's right, but it's HISTORY!!!
There seems to be only one church today that is being hounded & persecuted, having their kids taken, if they aren't killed first, that is.

Flash forward to 2008. Blacks are categorically paid less, denied good mortgage loans, sentenced more harshly than whites for the same crimes with the same records and have higher mortality rates.

I tend to agree with him, Americans are stuck on stupid.

I am listening to Glen Beck right now break down his interview. White people are scared of black people reading, and learning. That is all I'm coming away with from the entire Wright issue.
