    Bob Barr, McCain's Nader and the best thing for the Republican Party?

    So, if Barr runs on the Libertarian ticket (possibly with Ron Paul as VP) it's possible that would syphon away enough votes from McCain to make sure the election goes to the Dems. The Repubs have moved so far from true classic conservative values they have left many disenfranchised. Barr would certainly appeal to that wing of the party.

    I fear that if McCain is elected, he would change the face of the republican party forever. By giving conservatives a real choice in the Libertarian party, it would FORCE the Republicans to go back to being what they once were or else face losing election after election to the Dems.

    Sure it would put Obama in the Whitehouse, but it would also un-hijack the Republican party from the grip of the neoconservatives. All in all, it's quite possible that may be the best thing for America hopefully allowing a true conservative to rise and make a run in 2012.

    Good theory, bad theory, what do you think?

    Had been recently considering voting Barr. I think I could live with myself, (regardless of the outcome), better than if voting GOP just because.

    I've said all along if the Libertarian party could just get the right candidate, it'll take off.

    That would be great, but I am thinking of a much more realistic outcome for now. They would essentially force the Republican party to return to its conservative roots or face loss after loss to Dems. I want to see the neocons removed and if that means Obama must be POTUS, then so be it. I'm thinking long-term instead of penny-wise and pound foolish.

    Besides, I don't think Obama has the relationships necessary to do much damage in 4 years. At this point I just don't think there is much to lose, but there is certainly a lot to be gained.

    I agree with that, but Bob Barr? I don't think so.

    As long as they can pick someone who can steal enough votes from the neoconservatives is all that really matters for now.

    So which are you voting for, Obama or Hillary?

    At this time it would probably have to be Obama. I think he would do less damage than Hillary even though he is actually more liberal. While McCain might be the better short-term option, from my long-term view he would change the Republican party forever and true conservatism could be lost for a very long time.

    I don't think I would directly vote Obama. I would vote Libertarian so I could vote my conscience even knowing it would help put Obama in the Whitehouse.

    Not that this is a set-in-stone belief for me. It's just an option I am giving serious consideration to at this time and I have always found that you have to consider all consequences of an action, not just the immediate ones.

    I would like to propose a different scenario;

    Hillary takes the nomination and in the spirit of bringing the party together, she invites Obama to ride along as VP. Now do you think McLame can beat that??

    Right now I believe that it's possible that any one of the three could win the general election, but we lose.
