    Re: Can we leave now?

    Good idea.

Then we can use our forces to attack Iran.

Seriously Michael, even you should acknowledge that 4,000 dead and a few hundred billion dollars is pretty cheap for a war.

And regarding the comment about Iran.

    I'm not completely joking.

A number of what you would call "war critics" have criticized the Iraq invasion mainly because they think we should be preparing for war against other targets.

For example. for all his anti Iraq War rhetoric, Democratic Congressman John Murtha is hardly a man of peace.

If you read many of his comments you will find that he wants the U.S. out of Iraq so the U.S. military can be prepared for war with the Chinese in the not so distant future.

You kill me, look lets add the suicides to the dead, 150 a week in 05 alone, then lets add the numbers that do not actually die in Iraq, those numbers are hidden. Then lets look at the hundred or so thousand wounded, while your at it count the cost of the war with some accuracy would you, 500 billion borrowed dollars and growing.

Your war mongering does a total injustice to you, go sign up then beat the drums of war.

I'm not sure I'd stop at 4,000 when claiming the total loss. I certainly wouldn't call that cheap. I'm still waiting to get the correct figure of human beings that this war will cost so I can be better prepared on my way to having to accept it.

One of the issues I have with this so called war on terrorism in Iraq is how much focus is taken away from more immediate and important issues that this country faces. Immigration, health, the recession, unemployment, and the credit crunch to name a few. I see a lot of posters bitch about these things, but we as a country are not going to able to do anything about them until we are out Iraq.

The federal govt. SHOULD NOT be doing anything about those things you mentioned.

The federal govt. should fight wars and explore space.

That should be about the extent of their efforts.

If you are going to count sucidents and other deaths, then count those that died from 1991 to 2003 during the "containment" of Iraq.

The death toll for that period rises well into the hundreds.

If we had "contained" Iraq another 20 years, the death toll from "containment" would easily be in the thousands.

NOT INVADING Iraq was hardly a cheap and bloodless option.

I believe the country as a whole should focus on these things. Now that we are in a war that was prepackaged to us (there is evidence and I have the paperwork in my hands to prove it) it is very difficult to focus on those things. They will not take care of themselves and the government needs to have a role if you really must know.

Give it read if you dare:
