President Bush: Iraq violence is a 'positive moment'

President Bush gave warning yesterday that Iraq’s “fragile situation” required the US to maintain a strong military presence there, even as he defended the withdrawal of British troops from Basra, the scene of heavy fighting in recent days.

What did you expect him to say? Iraq is a failure, we need to get out now?

What are we expecting to get out of Iraq?

This is the insurgents back yard, and until Iraq and muslims do something about the violence nothing will change. The US Military is not going to solve the problems in Iraq. The US military will not beable to secure peace in Iraq if leaders like Al-Sadr don't want peace.

I wonder what Sadr would do if we left, he wants us gone and will fight anyone in Iraq that either wants us there or helps us.

This war was a huge mistake from the get go, now that Sadr's cease fire is over the blood will again flow. Bush calls it a good thing. I think the families of the troops need to read this article, because it seems that bush will sacrifice their young just to stay.

I've got a feeling that the families know a lot more about what's going on than most here do.

The enduring lesson of Vietnam. If you just ignore the carnage long enough, eventually you run out your term and you get to walk away... then someone else goes down in the history books as the one who withdrew.

You lose nothing, and all it costs is a few thousand people's lives, homes and families.

I agree. Somebody needs to stand up for the soldiers and the families, and needs to be more then the Democrats false promises and dreams.

I'm not willing to see another dead young American, another billion dollars wasted on this shit hole Iraq.

I keep hearing Bush talk about needing time and patience, FOR WHAT? If we had an idea what the end goal is was, I might have some fucking patience.

It's time the leadership do the responsible thing and stop playing the fucking politics with this war and the lives of these service men.
