He was still in office. Nice to know you guys nominate and elect senile old men.
Kinda like Robert Byrd only not as bad. OH and I'm not a Republican and wouldn't have voted for him myself.

Actually, I am not confused. Lott was advocating Thurmond's previous position as a segregationist.
No just saying something stupid at his birthday.
Rev. Wright made inherently stupid comments about America. He was not a senator at that time.
Obama is, and Obama was talking about what Wright has advocated and stood for and spoke out for, not 30 years ago, but last year. You missed that point didn't you. Thurmond had long since denounce his segregationist views and won black votes. Wright hasn't repudiated his statements, his are not 30 years old. And Lott never claimed that Thurmand was one of the most important people in his life, his moral leader, his spiritual leader.

Obama bad, racist segregationist assholes good.[/quote]

And once again I'll say: Nobody is asking how wide spread Wright's views are. I guess nobody cares, except as it relates to America's first really likely black presidential candidate.

I highlighted the operative words. He said. Trent Lott said it. Had his pastor said it should he still have been canned?

Not sure if you are aware of this, but Wright is not running for president.

ROFL, no his statements pretty much confirm it beyond doubt as did the postings the church just today took off it's website. He still stands by those policies and the church has not denounced them. He is CURRENTLY saying these things and Obama STILL supports him.

Thurmond, on the other hand had a record of promoting policies that took freedom from blacks.
40 years previous. Policies, Democrat policies, which he himself ultimately denounced and rejected after he became a Republican.

Obama has not only said nice things about a racist bigot, he has by his own writings and words stated that the man is one of the MOST highly INFLUENTIAL people in his life, his moral mentor, his spiritual leader. A man who CURRENTLY is speaking in racist bigot tones and advocating segregation of the black community. And he is running for an even higher office. And now it appears he has lied about it.
Go read Obama's books, read his speeches and you will not find any of Wright's sentiments in them. And please keep in mind that Obama was accused of stealing material and in response, he said he liked to use parts of speeches that inspired him, that had impact (and his friend gave him the speech, you can't steal what is given to you) that expressed what he believed. He has used some of JFK's, Bobby Kennedy's, MLKjr's words. Now, if Obama was attached to the sentiments of Wright, he would have used the words in his speeches. Hell, Obama even uninvited Wright - he wouldn't let him give the prayer when Obama announced his run.

Wright's words are no more Obama's words than are Hagee's, Parsley's and Robertson's words McCain's words. If you are bothered by hate speech, have you asked McCain to denounce those 3 men? Have you gone on the rampage spewing how McCain is anti-catholic, anti-semitic, anti-USA because the spiritual leaders he asked endorse him spew that hate?

Sure now it is all over the news. Two days ago it got very limited play. Even now the play on the networks is limited.

    Right.

The important thing isn't the looney racist ideas Wright has, the important thing is that Obama has freely chosen to associate himself, for more than two decades, with a man expressing those racist looney ideas.

Obama's denials of knowledge of Wright's are no more believable than our Rapist President's avowal that he didn't inhale.

And that means Obama is really good at hiding his racism, but he has it, never the less.

So, everyone that has had contact with you makes them a racist as well?
I highly doubt that. I associate with racists every now and then (can't avoid it in the business world) and none have swayed my opinion.....

Bullshit. He like other Dixiecrats became a Republican because the Democrats weren't supportive of his crap anymore. He never denounced anything.
