U.S. soldiers, militia exchange fire in south Iraq

Iraqi police said the rockets were fired from Kut's Shuhada district, one of four Mehdi Army strongholds raided by Iraqi police on Wednesday, a day after anti-U.S. cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's militia clashed with security forces.
    Article here......

There has been a rise in US deaths the last few weeks. I am thinking Al Sadr has lifted the cease fire. This can get bad. Also the number of large explosions and Iraqi casualties are increasing.

I've never seem someone so hell bent on running down his own countries efforts overseas.

I've never been one to make claims about people "hating America" when they criticize the U.S. government or its policies.

But MichaelR's fanaticism in that regard is making me strongly believe that.

I hate this war, always have always will. I hate corruption, always have always will. If this admin wants to wallow in it then for you it might seem that I hate this country, but you are so far from the truth that it isn't funny.

I am for the war in Iraq.

That position is on more or less legitimate than yours.

You should be willing to respect that.

Instead you routinely run down, mock and demean those beliefs.

No I respect your position on the war. But there are some that will candy coat a turd in hopes nobody recognizes it's a turd. I am not sure what I said on this thread that made you respond the way you did. I can only assume that it is our differing opinions and that make YOU angry with me. Al Sadr called for a cease fire about six months ago, I thing that cease fire has been called off. I said that spells trouble for the region, well it does. In the last couple of weeks we lost a pretty good number of troops, there have been fire fights at bases, there has been an increase in violence and more Iraqi's are dying. Now if you want I can start another thread detailing these events. But please do not question my patriotism because I bring these facts into the light of day, or because I may disagree with your opinion.

The US forces have given Iraqi police lolypops to give out to Al Sadr ,and the Sunni in Anbar. The time that goes by where elements of the Madi Army sit on the curb sucking lollypops as well as former Baathist Sunni in Anbar do the same is what's known as the Surge.

Elements of Sadr's Madi Army who don't have taste for sweets have started some "Get back to work you lollypop suckers" attacks without Al Sadr's permission.

Dayton, the only worry I have about the surge, something I really hope works, is that our current administration hasn't planned for post Surge Iraq just like they didn't plan for post invasion Iraq. I have heard nothing about post Surge planning, and that is worrysome.

Actually Michael Al Sadr did voice continuation of the cease fire about a week or so ago. But who knows what he may have told some individuals in private. I can think of a couple of scenarios, not involving Al Sadr hedging on his word of a cease fire. One is the surge put pressure on insurgents in target areas and they left. Now they've regrouped found new places to stage from and hide and they've resurged. Or this is limited to a few zealots and will burn itself out. What I'm taking away from this however is, our presence there is what is keeping the factions from sorting this control out themselves. Ultimately I don't see that happening in a peaceful way unless we stay in force for 100 years or so. Then there is still no guarantee.
