    Re: 4 dollar gas

We have spent the last 80 years using the taxpayer to pay for protecting private oil company interests. Because of that we have a complete disconnect between the price we pay at the pump and the true cost of gas. Even at $4 a gallon, gas is dirt cheap compared to what it should be, but if we had had to pay the real cost we would have made different choices in vehicles and laid out our cities different as well. Now we are simply throwing good money after bad trying to prop up a bad system put into place by the government subverting the free market.

Now all I hear is "who will make a better steward of our economy." THE POTUS HAS NO BUSINESS BEING THE STEWARD OF THE FUCKING ECONOMY!!!!! When will we learn?

I didn't know that Al Gore was an employee of the government. Last I looked he was a private citizen.

We're paying $3,03 here & we're practically in the back yard of the nations largest refineries. Course groceries have gone up, everything has risen, except the pay check. Maybe we could borrow some more $$$ from China.
I'd say he was bullshitting when he said he didn't know, but he is too stupid.

This is a Washington Post news article from 2005 pointing out the unprecedented secret meetings between this administration & the major oil company execs in which (I believe) the President did conspire to stiffle competition & set fuel prices...... A felony under US law! (That is the only logical interpretation of why this administration is willing to add Obstruction of Justice charges to their already long list of crimes by defying subpeanas to disclose info about these meetings.

......"Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who posed the question about the task force, said he will ask the Justice Department today to investigate. "The White House went to great lengths to keep these meetings secret, and now oil executives may be lying to Congress about their role in the Cheney task force," Lautenberg said.".....

I'm also sick & tired of certain Presidents (ie Nixon & Bush) hiding behind the "Executive Priveldge" concept to hide criminal activity. (Nixon tried to get the CIA to stop the FBI investigation of Watergate ( & would have been tried for this felony if not for Pres. Ford's pardon) & now Bush is trying to hide his felonies behind the same flimsy excuse.....I doubt that Bush will receieve a pardon from the next President though, no matter who wins)

I think this bull started when Cheney walked in the door and formed his so called energy task force and it was full of oil execs and scientists and environmentalist being virtually non existant with absolutely no say into the future of energy development occurring in this country. Why does this surprise anyone.

Is raping a country considered against the law?

Rather be accurate than not. The Prez does not control the world market in oil and the enviros have prevented us from bringing our own abundant supply to market.

It wasn't "so-called" and it wasn't "his own", the executive branch meets with groups of people all the time to get input on policy matters. The people who participate do so only on the basis that the things the divulge about their business practices will not be pasted all the the front page on the NYT harming their business.

You know congressmen and women also meet with groups and they keep those meetings secret, why are you harping for Nancy Pelosi to release the names of everyone she has met with and the minutes of those meetings?

Actually you don't know who he has met with, it is not public knowledge.

Is trying to secure an energy future for the country?
