    Is it over for Hillary?

With some key supporters switching to Obama recently, Democrats seem to be sending a message to Hillary. I think a survey that came out a few weeks ago from the Pew Research Center, is also very revealing about the Democrats’ opinions regarding their two candidates (not just from the general public). The results show that Hillary has much to overcome if she is to be nominated. Summary of the survey:

Barack Obama is seen by most Democrats as inspiring and as most likely to bring about change. Hillary Clinton is widely viewed as prepared to lead the country, but also hard to like. These are some of the major themes in campaign news coverage – identified by the Project forExcellence in Journalism (PEJ) – which are registering with the public.

Obama has a clear advantage on three positive campaign themes. Fully 54% of Democrats and independents who lean Democratic say the word “inspiring” better describes Obama than Clinton, while 52% say the phrase “will bring change” applies more to the Illinois senator. By a wide margin (40%-21%), more Democrats also say that the phrase “honest and trustworthy” better describes Obama than Clinton.

Clinton holds a considerable advantage as the candidate more often viewed as “prepared to lead;” 38% of Democrats say this phrase better describes Clinton, while 28% say it applies to Obama. However, Clinton also is widely seen as “hard to like.” By more than four-to-one (42%-9%), more Democrats say this phrase better describes Clinton than Obama, while 42% say it applies to neither candidate. Obama also is associated with a negative trait: 35% say the phrase “too inexperienced for the job” better describes him than it does Clinton, while 38% say itdescribes neither candidate.

With such a large percentage margin of a more favorable view for Obama from the Democrats’ own base, does Clinton have much of a chance? The only clear differences that favored Clinton from this was that she is viewed as having more experience and “ready to lead". IMO, the biggest hurdle for Clinton is the perception of being “hard to like” and at this point I would have to say that her run for the WH is close to over.

Hopefully, Obama will take unquestioned control of the nomination next week. I've nothing major against Clinton, but there are two primary reasons that I support Obama instead.

First and foremost, Sen. Clinton has approved every war funding bill, without exception. Ok, there's no shame in being "fooled" by BushCo at the offset of the war. Nearly all politicians bought the WMD line hook, line, and sinker. However, that's not the vote that bugs me - it was all the subsequent votes to provide unconditional funding for the war years later.

Second, it's no secret that Obama stands a far better chance of beating McCain in November. There are LOTS of conservatives that would get over their dislike of McCain in order to keep Sen. Clinton out of the White House. However, there are far fewer conservatives that would vote for McCain just to keep Obama out of the White House.

We'll see for sure after Super Tuesday II. If Clinton wins just one of the big states, I think she still has that little bit of cliff to hang on too, but if she loses both big states, then it's over. As well, even if she wins one big state but by a small margin and Obama sweeps the others besides say Rhode Island, it may also be hard for her to hold on.

If the Red Queen can't hold Ohio, she's a used tampon.

    It's that simple.

I can hear Dandy Don Meredith singing "Good Night Irene" like he used to when the outcome of the game was obvious on Monday Night Football years ago.
