Berkeley - Bastion of Free Speech?

    Berkeley kicks out Marine Recruiters...

BERKELEY — Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go. That's the message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 8-1 to tell the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.

If Berkeley's reputation for free speech is so deserved, then maybe they should remember those who have fought and died for it.

Sorry, but where does this fall into free speech?

By the way, this is the biggest club at Cal.

    Indeed it is.

However the recruitment office is on the other side of town as the campus is.

    In my opinion only.

Berkeley is a shit hole for the most part. Some very wealthy people live in the hills above it, but in town it is full of homeless and tragically hip people. It borders Oakland and Emeryville to the west, and not the nice part of Oakland. While the impression is that berkely is a liberal city and accepting of others, it is not really accepting of anyone with moderate or conservative views. It's city council is constantly passing silly laws that have nothing to do with the city at all.

However, my impression from reading the article is not so much that they are trying to get rid of the Marines, but that they are favoring one group over another.

Even this liberal will say that the Berkeley city council should worry more about fixing their city and less about national politics.

My word! As distraught as I am at some of the politics going on here in Texas, when I see this kind of stuff, I know I must be in heaven. What a bunch of loons over there! Wayyyyy out of touch.

Interesting take on that. Where in the article did it mention illegals?
