Thread: Obama back pedaling on Afghan War

So the date of July 2011 for the begin pull out date is being back pedaled on now by the Obama admin. There was this quote from Hilary on "Meet the Press" today:



Gates has also stated that it is not a time table.

Obama and his staff are doing what any good military organization would do. Adapting their strategy and tactics to the ever changing situation in Afghanistan.

The situation in Afghanistan is quite fluid, therefore it is imperative that we adapt our military strategy accordingly.

Karzai's in on it too.



Karzai: U.S. must have patience if Afghanistan not ready



(CNN) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Sunday the United States and its allies must have patience if his country is not ready to assume control of its own security by July 2011, when U.S. troops would begin leaving under President Obama's plan.



Karzai spoke to CNN's "Amanpour" program in his first television interview since Obama's announcement last week that he will deploy an additional 30,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan. Obama also said the U.S. forces would begin withdrawing from Afghanistan in July 2011.



The date was not "an exit announcement," but instead a goal for Afghan forces to be able to start assuming security control

You can't possibly expect a military action with the complexity of the war in Afghanistan to be held to a strict timeline. If you do, then it's obvious that you've had no military experience.



As an example, during phased withdrawl if the Taliban escalated the level of violence against NATO and Afghan forces would you expect the withdrawl to continue as scheduled even though it would seriously endanger our forces? I would certainly hope not,



Frankly Stinger, I doubt that you have any serious concern about our troops. Instead you're just trying to turn another non-event into another one of your anti-Obama rants.

So if Obama did not want to make a time table for withdrwal, then why did he go on national television and make a long speech directly to the American people and in it talk about a specific month that troops would be started to be withdrawn by? Everybody heard him directly say it. There were no minced words. He said troops would start to be removed by July 2011. No ifs ands or buts.
