I don't see how my nationality is even remotely relevant in regards to my interest in American politics. If you are attempting to use my nationality as some bullshit smear tactic akin to “he’s a Canadian his opinion is automatically irrelevant” then you can kindly fuck off.

Do you think the US exists in a bubble? The US is the most powerful, influential and wealthy country on the planet, and my comparatively tiny country happens to share a long ass border with it. I think it’s reasonable to conclude that matters of US politics are of some concern and interest to Canadians. And that’s completely ignoring the fact that being aware of international politics and the domestic affairs of other states rather than existing in some moronic state of ignorance is never a bad thing.

    Pierre Elliot Trudeau (one of our former Presidents) famously stated about the United States;

“Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt.”

    Wordlife Pierre you Frenchie bastard.

    Quick question?

Why do we give a damn about what presidential candidate say about eduation?

Education has been primarily a local thing in America for centuries and probably always will be.

If you want to improve education, turn out for the School Board election, state legislature elections and governors elections.

The President doesn't do hardly anything regarding education

Fine then I think that we can now close the US Department of Education, and shove the policies, you know "No Child Left Behind", in the garbage.

I am all for the states running schools.

    Hey, I'm all for that.

I always thought "No Child Left Behind" was a bad idea.

Though in fairness, it did help me get my first teaching job.

But Americans over the last 30 years have come to expect every presidential candidate to promise to "improve education"

Hell, if I ran for president I would probably swear that I would "fix the education problem".

Of course, I would never promise to spend money to do it.

90% of American education problems disappear if each student has father and mother together.

I'm fine with reducing the federal government's powers and influence in regards to education, local government is far better suited for providing public education.

However do you think it’s possible to insure that basic standards and the semblance of a relatively common nation curriculum could be maintained if the federal government withdrew from educational issues altogether?

I don't think US Department of Education needs to be disbanded as some federal oversight is needed. That being said it needs to be reformed and reigned in to a certain degree.

Well there is one candidate that will fix it by shutting the department down and allow the states to regain control. That Rat Bastard!!!!

hmm... shit is a pretty broad term. so i can't really answer your question. but, let me address one of the "shit" things you may be alluding to... regardless if the initial decision to invade iraq was right or wrong, we have to deal with the situation at hand. for instance, all non-believers and code-pink types said the surge wasn't working 2 weeks after initiating it. however, given time, it is showing progress. btw, i know you won't agree because i have seen your other posts.

oh, also, i see that we have opposing views, but let me say that i respect the fact the you put your stuff out there!

    Re: All That Change

Saw Paul on Glenn Beck tonight and it completely changed my opinion of the man. I don't know if it was an old episode or not as I recall this conversation already happening on this forum before, but I must say it was very well done and Glenn has given him more time and fairness then any other media outlet. This one show has made me a believer and Mr. Paul might very well be getting my vote. Though I'm not sure his foreign policy will work I think he did a very good job in backing up his thoughts concerning why he thinks it will. Glenn Beck has a very large audience and I think this might have been the best thing for Ron yet. If it can make me a believer I'm sure there are many others out there that will be swayed as well. His want to reduce Gov. and restructure the Federal Gov. that will be left after a huge reduction is brilliant to say the least, and I think that if he can win a nomination he may well be able to win, on top of that I think it would truly be a new direction for the country instead of more of the same. I truly believe he will do what he says and I think we need a Constitutional Conservative (It's my term for Paul don't steal it.LOL.) in the white house.
