Diplomats expelled 'at behest of the US'

Two European diplomats accused of holding secret talks with the Taliban in Afghanistan were thrown out of the country following a complaint by the US, intelligence officials in Kabul have told The Sunday Telegraph.

Mervyn Patterson, who is British, and Irish-born Michael Semple were flown out of Kabul on Thursday after the Afghan government accused them of "threatening national security".

The pair had been working for the United Nations and the European Union respectively.

Unless I am reading this wrong, then this is a bad decision by the US.

I am sure that the UN and the EU sent these diplomats to broker some sort of a peace deal, and they get tossed out? Odd!

Not odd at all. Totally typical of US foreign policy.

The two were giving money, food and other aid to the Taliban for months.

It's not unreasonable for a nation to want to expell "diplomats" who are helping enemies intent on overthrowing the government.

If only the US government had enough sense to treat the UN that way.

So much for the Coalition of the Willing. Maybe Coalition of the Submissive would be more accurate? Considering the way that any sort of criticism to US dominance in international affairs has been delt with, it's not surprising that the typical "threat to national security" bit was tossed out as an excuse. Next they'll have us wearing ID cards hahahaha.. oh wait...

Well then I would suggest that we get expelled from Iraq for the same reason, well sort of, we are giving the insurgency weapons and money but I am not sure on the food part.

No. Last time I checked, the UN is still polluting the banks of the Hudson River in New York. I mean, that building could be put to good use as a bordello or something, and the workers there would be much more honest and clean than what we permit there now.

Well, we are giving them weapons. As far as I know, it's wrong end first and really fast, too. They seem to missed playing "catch" when they were younger and don't seem to recieve well.
