a simple explanation of affirmative action

Affirmative action is racist against white people. How do you think you can make up for racism in the past by instituting new racist policies. The only solution to racism is to eliminate race as a factor in anything

You're 100% correct, but it'll never happen. Too many politically correct people out there, too many bleeding-heart Liberals, too many we-feel-guilty-for-the-past groups.......

*And of course there are those who claim that Whites can never be discriminated against and that there is no such thing as racism against Whites. And, of course, the ol' stand-by, only Whites can be racist; and that other one, Whites have it better than anyone in the United States.

How is assuring that qualified blacks get equal consideration for jobs and schools racist against whites?

You know in some way that you have been discriminated against based on the simple reason of you being White, Dave. If not, then you got lucky.

Affirmative action, as we all know, rewards those on the basis of their non-white skin, even if they do not have qualifying grades for colleges, universities, and do not have qualifying test scores for jobs.

Ask anyone on this forum for an opinion on this subject and they should tell you the truth.

Re: a simple explanation of affirmative action

The intent of affirmative action was good and quite possibly necessary at the time. I believe now that affirmative action does way more harm to our country than it does good.

That being said..............................didn't we already have a very similar argument about this already this month?

Not government instittutions, and, frankly, the government has no place regulating the hiring policies of private companies. The company's own the job, the job doesn't belong to the guy they hire to do it.

They don't get equal consideration. If equal consideration was the only goal, there'd be no reason to demand ethnicity information on college applications.

Nope, they get MORE consideration, it's what "affirmative action" is all about. When confronted with two equally qualified candidates, pick the one with the most visible melanin.

Must make perfect sense to someone.
