    Kids

I noticed in the ads at the top of the page there was an advertisement for 'little democrats'. I clicked on it and browsed it quickly. Now, party and ideology aside, does anyone think that we are all getting a little petty and silly by trying to get kids involved in politics so soon? Hell, let'em go play outside or just do kid things. If they get into this crap called politics so soon they will be 'jaded' and 'old' by the time they are in highschool.

Just my opinion, but let them come to it, don't take this mess to the kids.

    What say you?

Well I got started in politics at 15ish but of my own free will.

But yeah I agree with you. I like to see kids take an interest on their own at a young age like me, but not so young that it is their parents influence and not their own decisions.

It needs to come naturally. I agree. good post

Really? It seems to me kids of the past few generations never grew up to be involved citizens, which is why politicians have had a free reign of terror for so long. There are grown men who are still busy doing "kid things" while Congress is hard at work destroying the country.

    Re: Kids

You didn't say how old the kids in the ads were. I think they should be taught to understand how the representative government works, three branches, equal powers, all that. And they should certainly know the Bill of rights as young as possible. Spare them the ugly details of party politics till they reach their teens, though.

Although, kids are indoctrinated into the warlike culture of competitive sports younger and younger, so maybe politics would just be an extension of that.

I see what you're driving at Bama. And I agree that kids are sometimes a little too driven in our society.

On the other hand, some kids LIKE politics. I was interested in it as early as 4th grade...when I was Nixon in our mock election. (I was McGovern by 8th grade.)

Funny, my pre-adolescent nephew was--under his father's influence--a staunch Republican. But he got hooked on "Colbert Report," and now he's a Democrat.

But it really is crazy how TV can influence political choices. Especially MTV and Comedy Central and certain news networks.
