Thread: Ghana Leader: Oil Reserves at 3B Barrels

ACCRA, Ghana (AP) -- Ghana's president said Saturday that offshore oil reserves discovered in the West African country's waters total 3 billion barrels.

"Ghana has struck oil in commercial quantities," President John Kufuor said, speaking at a ruling party congress in the capital, Accra. "This is only the beginning. The future is very bright indeed."

I am sure that they have WMD and nuclear abilities with long range anti ballistic missiles pointed at the US and an evildoer, if not they soon will have! Thats OK we can save them!

My last ship went to Ghana twice in the past couple of years. Pretty depressing place but maybe this will help them move up the economic ladder a bit.

Good, now which western oil giant will swoop in and exploit and pollute?

Kind of cynical dont you think? If these folks can finally use their resources in a humane way, they should be able to actually make some improvements there.

China is already active in Africa anyway, a couple of donations and some diplomatic massages and they'd have energy at the fraction of the cost - plus having good satellite states in Africa - it makes it pretty worthwhile.
