We agree to disagree on capitalism creates poverty, but under capitalism you will always have poor people needing a place on the streets to take a dump.

Are you focused now? And I say for health concerns American commerical & business districts of cities should provide public restrooms every eight blocks, or just about every place a city bus stops for passengers.

I think it would also make our nation more friendly place for foreign vacationers.

These self-cleaning systems seem the way to go.

Have you actually ever been to a city or ridden on a bus in the city? Or been to a park in a bad neighborhood a year after the government spends millions cleaning it up? Tell them to walk a couple blocks to a public building and use the shitter. Why don't we just hand them a credit card with $100,000 and tell them to use it to get their life back together and stop living on the street. That worked so well in the past. Thousands were able to get brand new purses and Ipods!

Oh, this must all be part of that trickle down theory some people thought was so grand. These businesses will be just so happy to pour out thousands of dollars for shitters and people riding the bus. Great idea shintao, great. Maybe in this lighted roofed area we could also offer a free buffet and clean syringes, condoms, what have you. You know, necessities. We will just through it on the tab of the commercial properties in the area!! Good thinking!!

But I'm sure a man that is in some need for privacy when he pulls a girl off the street to rape her or your local drug dealer or heroin user would love them. But, if one homeless man is willing to piss there, I'm sure he might not want to ever leave and making it his new home.

And I see more dog shit than human shit. Maybe the dogs should get there own private shitter. At least they can't help that they are forced to shit outside.
You can pretend they are for dogs, rapists, and I will pretend they are fo homeless and elderly and vacationers in the business & commercial districts.

I can understand the concerns of some people here. Building bathrooms along every major street certainly is another place for criminals to gather.

Your strange thoughts, not mine. Like most projects that cost thousands of dollars, this project will probably run in the millions, and when broken down to taxables for businesses & comercial clients, their individual costs will be quite low, around $7-800. a piece, with one unit every which way in the district at eight blocks apart.

OK, since you seem to be intent on keeping this going like it is a good idea I shall play along. Who coordinates this construction? Who mans the shitters to maintain their safety? Who gets sued when they get their ass beat inside of one of these? Who maintains them on a daily basis and who pays for that? Who replaces them when the need arises. Liability is stanky here my friend, who is liable for the goings on in these shitters?

Re: Taking Care of the Homeless

They are having to make restrooms almost public places in bars now because of drugs, sex, and crime and we think the homeless aren't going to do it?

Are we in lala land here? The church across the street from my old building used to be open for the homeless to use and they fed them nightly while giving them a place to stay and one still snuck into our lobby and took a shit on the floor of our bathroom.

Don't know about communist Russia, but I have been to Cuba, and talking to some of the locals about economics, they were stunned to here that there are homeless in the states, as they don't have them there.

Here is a site that has self-cleaning restrooms of the design I would prefer to see put into use.

Clean public toilets for ANYONE would be nice. But that's too socialist, I guess.

To promote the cause, it might be fun to do up some t-shirts with Che sitting on the can or looking over his shoulder while standing at a urinal. I'd wear one!
