"Iraqis are returning to their homeland by the hundreds each day, by bus, car and plane, encouraged by weeks of decreased violence and increased security, or compelled by visa and residency restrictions in neighboring countries and the depletion of their savings."
Iraq returnees find capital transformed - Washington Post - MSNBC.com
This sentence beginning sentence from MSNBC does support what the right and the Bushbots have been saying. What I like about the article is it goes on to identify several reasons for people's returns and the issue's they face once they get back home.
Are things better? What the liberals and Democrats seem to be arguing is at the moment, on the surface it appears to be better. Not as many people are dying (that remark in itself is interesting) that seems evident. But this peace is fragile. Will it survive once the surge numbers have departed? What kind of government will there be? Is a stable, secure Islamist state allied with Iran and the Chinese and the Russians acceptable? Do more Americans need to die in order to prevent that? Where does Iraq need to go for the US to consider this excursion successful?
