A great many political debates are rooted in the principles and legacy of our founding fathers, the documents, letters, actions and opinions they produced.

It’s often not enough to just cite the Constitution and Bill of Rights when trying to make a point. The pitfall of reinterpreting them in terms of modern times is often misleading.

This thread is hereby established to make it easier to research and understand the mindset of the founders, and just exactly what they meant and thought about the documents they created.

Thanks for those links. I for one appreciate it. To he who said he has those stored on the internet, you just might to get in there and actually read those document once in a while.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

As a Democrat, I take solace in the fact that the Republicans have nominated the guy who lost the nomination to the guy who lost the presidency to the guy who is now the President.

Yes, it's a lot of information. It's a "reference" for the future, I suppose. This way, next time we refer to history, we can link into this thread and it'll all be in one place. (all? well, at least "a lot")

    You're such an Extremist..
"Cowardice asks the question 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it
Politic?' Vanity asks the question 'Is it popular?' But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right."
