McCain Faces Potentially Tough Re-Election Bid, Poll Suggests

"I think we all respect John as a historical figure," said Hayworth, who served in Congress from 1995 to 2006. "The question is, who can represent Arizona with a clear, consistent philosophy in the United States Senate. Apparently, the electorate, at least my fellow Republicans, are telling us in this poll they're inclined to look at someone other than John."

Well, the quote started out complimentary.
Yes. I'm Tebowing as we speak.

I like McCain's immigration stand. I believe the process should be streamlined for those already living here.

I'm sure that immigration is only a part of this. I think his age and his choice for VP have the people of Arizona thinking twice about his "decision making" skills.

Why? Is old bad? Is young good?

I would like to see the repeal of the 22d Amendment. It's an insult to the people of this country. It says we are stupid.

On second thought, after the election "results" of NOV 2008, maybe we are too stupid.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

Its awesome! McCain is for amnesty for illegals and this issue is bitting him in the butt. Conservatives do not like his stance in Arizona.

Yeah, Arpaio's getting a lot of play too.

This is kinda problematic, in a way.

Seems like, the Republicans are trying to move their own party "farther to the right".

So, next time the Dems screw the pooch and rhe 'Cons get in power again, what we'll have is a party in power that's "farther to the right".

Hm... well, this is kinda the pendulum swinging back and forth, yes? But, each time it swings, it goes a little bit farther, gets a little more eccentric every time. Therefore, the oscillations gain amplitude.

Not sure if that's a good thing, I would prefer to see a little "damping". We've already got a Dem party that's moved a bit to the left, thanks to Bushie's shennanigans - even though, he wasn't really a conservative, but he was PAINTED as such, and therefore "the left" can point to that and say, "see, we were correct, conservatives suck".

Then when the 'cons get back in power, they can point to Obama - even though he's not really all that liberal - and say, "see we were right".

The result of this process, ia series of votes driven by revulsion rather than "what is best for America".

any limit on political office that is legislated is a step away from democracy.

    term limits

    retirement limits

    even ethics

it stands in the way. The people of the constituency should hear all the facts, and they should still decide. The will of the people can sometimes be ugly but it should always be honored.
