Thread: How Much of the "Impeach Bush"/"Impeach Cheney" Stuff is just retaliation?

How much of the carping from some Dems and leftists in general about wanting to impeach President Bush and/or Vice President Cheney do you believe is simple retaliation for the impeachment of President Clinton?

To me that is the ultimate in childishness. Wanting to put the country through something like that just because "they did it to our guy".

I think it has more to do with garnering support by using the we're not afraid of the 'big bad Cheny' tactic....

It has nothing at all to do with it in my opinion. No one is going after the President's or the VP's personal life. We want them impeached because of the damage they are doing to our country and constitution.

There's where the difference of opinion comes to a head, your'e problem is a disagreement in policy. That's not an impeachable offense, no matter how much Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi would like it to be.

But I believe that if Bill Clinton had never been impeached the calls to impeach Bush and/or Cheney wouldn't be nearly as strident.

Exactly.

Policy differences have never been held to be sufficient to impeach a president.

An unwritten rule has been that only violations of the law by a President or Vice President for political gain are sufficient to warrant impeachment and removal.

No, it's not about policy. It's about a power grab of a unitary executive and destroying the co-equal branches of government. It's about constitutional violations regarding habeas corpus, illegal search and siezure in the form of spying on Americans without a warrant. It's about free speech and freedom of the press and the way they regard whistleblowers as criminals. It's about the treason of releasing classified information for their political agenda. That's not policy. Those are crimes.

It's just a gimmick for their base, like "elect us, we'll get us out of Iraq". They have no more intention of an impeachment than they do of restoring integrity & honesty.
This is also a very good way to keep the public busy looking at this crap while the're hiding the real sheet they're trying to perpetrate.

If true, it would be an impeachable offense. However, if you impeach Busor Cheny on policy directives you'd have to do the same for Hillary Clinton and alot of other liberal democrats for trying to push through those same policies.
