    Cuba.

What do you think about the current situation between the United States and Cuba?

President Bush has stated that he intends on "liberating" the Cuban people and bringing them "democracy".

Well, the only way I can see him pursuing that agenda is through war. That makes me a bit worried.

So I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on how the relationship with Cuba will evovle in the years to come, will it end in warefare?

If so, how will it affect this county's stature in the world?

    Re: Cuba.

I think holding a grudge for the last 45 years or so is a stupid waste of energy on our part. There will be no war, no invasion. Cuba will be left alone. How will our relationship end up? It depends on when the US stops sulking.

Cuba really has the potential to become a tourist paradise with a thriving economy.
think all the Cubans in South Florida would return to the island and call it home?
    I love Cuban food.

I still don't fully understand why there is an embargo today

I agree with you that keeping an embargo on Cuba is useless. But until Castro is dead the embargo will remain in place.

    the embargo is about sugar.
Coca Cola and other soft drink companies have sweet deals with other countries for sugar, if Cuba were to be in the market then the competition would be eliminated. in the 60's that lifeline to their economy was cut off and the grudge remains. a strong economic Cuba would mean they could afford weaponry.

What Crum & TenGig said. I have always been baffled by the relationship with Cuba. Yeah, castro is a dictator, so are the Saudi Royals, so are so many nations leaders we deal with, but this small island 90 miles off our coast has caused presidents since JFK consternation. I belieev that there's more to it than we know.

I think they can afford weaponry now. I don't think comunication between Cuba and N. Korea is too big of a reach.

If we start trading with Cuba, which we should, we can develope friendlier relations with them and start permitting travel to Cuba. That way, ideas and info about our republic and freedoms will reach the Cubans and they will want to try to make Cuba more free.

The embargo is long overdo to be lifted. The idea that Bush will invade Cuba is just silly. When Castro tops it the people will most probably make a move and I think bush wants to make sure the people get a free Democratic government.
