Re: Retreat of the idealogues: How Radical Republicanism has failed to sway America

    I agree with both.
I will be the first to say that Conservatives have been hypocritical in what they do and preach.
Until Conservatives are prepared to practice what they preach, they don't deserve control of the government. I can't stand hypocrisy.

But on the other hand, I hardly think that the case is closed.
Politicians laid aside (I can't pay close enough attention to be able to tell you whether or not Conservatives ARE in fact more culpable than the left) I see just as much demonization of the Right from leftists as I do demonization of the left, and I attend a VERY conservative university. I see, on a daily basis, Conservatives who turn the other cheek and refuse to protest the visit of Harry Reid, when a few months ago the leftists on campus made a huge fuss over Cheney coming to speak.
Not that there is anything wrong with protests, but I think that from my experiences it is a bit rich to accuse the Right of being the group that demonizes the other side.

You foergot to mention Reagan with O'Neill, an oversight, I'm sure.

Who's more partisan? Thats useful. The winner could base a
campaign slogan on it: "Were slightly less- a bunch of jerk offs".

Then you sit back in your smug self-righteousness and wonder why the attacks continue from both sides.

    Pathetic.
Tell ya what: when the Radical right formally apologizes to John Kerry for swiftboating him, and to Jack Murtha AND Max Cleland and to EVERY liberal they have EVER defamed in the last twelve years by calling them terrorist sympathizers, phony soldiers, cowards, French, and worse... THEN you can lecture me about how the left is equally culpable.

I have already indicated the problem is not exclusive to the radical right, it's just that the attacks of the radical right ARE more viscious and venemous (hands down). The claim that both parties are equally responsible is just so much self-serving nonsense. The truth is this: Republicans (in government) told the Democrats to go pack sand for the past twelve years. Now they are losing control of the government and they're afraid of payback. They have used (almost exclusively) personal attacks as their basis for stifling dissent and NOW they're afraid that the shoe is about to be placed upon the other foot.

Actually it was... but then I get to include Clinton as well.

That is because you view it from a liberals perspective. If you polled all the conservatives on this site would it surprise you if they thought the liberals had been more spiteful? Until both sides acknowledge that this is going nowhere but downhill fast...it will only continue to get worse.

This election, 2008, if it is Hillary and Rudy, will be the most disgusting, offensive, attack-filled election in my lifetime...and I have been watching them closely since Reagan's first run. You watch.

Nice diversion, but it won't wash. Prove me wrong Cons- CONDEMN Rush Limbaugh and EVERY CONSERVATIVE COMMENTATOR who has EVER engaged in these practices. CONDEMN the SWIFTBOAT VETS FOR TRUTH for their LIES about John Kerry. Come on- prove me wrong!

I saw a comment the other day that really struck me as an interesting observation. The writer said that the malfeasance of both parties has become so bad, that he thanks God for gridlock. Now, I must say, I think he has a point.
